Airport Security Officer II - List

Purpose

This position performs substantial and diverse pre‑assigned and as‑assigned job duties. It provides customer service and armed security for the Redmond Municipal Airport as a uniformed security officer. The incumbent reports to the Airport Security Officer Supervisor and the Airport Security Manager and conducts inspections and audits to maintain FAA compliance. Under general supervision, the employee exercises broad discretion and independent judgment within established guidelines.

Work includes reviewing assigned security‑related functions to ensure compliance with the Airport Security Program, TSA security directives, and DPSST minimum standards while maintaining confidentiality.

• Respond to access control alarms and TSA assistance requests in the airport terminal.
• Assist in maintenance of curb traffic and issue parking citations as needed.
• Respond to incidents and de‑escalate sensitive and stressful situations.
• Write incident reports promptly with high accuracy and professional language.
• Navigate web or application‑based software to document inspections, incidents, and access control functions.
• Maintain confidentiality of materials in support of the Airport Security Program.
• Develop and maintain effective professional working relationships with co‑workers, peers, vendors, and stakeholders.
• Work on call shifts (24/7) and be prepared for overtime, irregular hours, weekends, and holidays.
• Retain, recall, and maintain significant amounts of information.
• Maintain good relationships with internal and external stakeholders including TSA officers, inspectors, contractors, and air carrier managers.
• Operate a motor vehicle to attend safety needs, patrol, meetings, and trainings.

• At least 21 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED; supplemented with an associate degree or vocational training in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, or related field; or two (2) years verifiable law‑enforcement related experience; or an equivalent combination of military, education, and work experience.
• Ability to perform essential job functions independently and cooperatively with peers, stakeholders, and customers, and demonstrate reliable attendance.
• Successfully complete the DPIST Armed Security Certification upon hire.
• Pass TSA‑mandated 10‑year federal criminal‑history background checks and Security Threat Assessments and maintain satisfactory results.
• Pass a drug screening.
• Meet the physical requirements of the job and remain fit for duty.
• Hold a valid Oregon driver’s license with a clean driving record (last 3 years).
• Flexible availability and willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as assigned.

• Valid DPSST Armed Security Professional License or ability to obtain one upon offer.
• Customer‑service experience.
• Prior experience working with or for the TSA, law enforcement, military, or as a qualified armed security officer.

• Obtain a valid Oregon state driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation within 30 days of hire.
• No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal histories within the past ten years.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Ability to read and write in English.
• Good moral character and pass a thorough background investigation.
• Obtain valid DPIST Armed Officer Certification at time of hire.

Work is performed under the general direction of the Airport Security Officer Supervisor and the Airport Security Manager.

This position is not supervisory. The employee may assist with direction, guidance, or training of other employees in operational procedures.

Regularly reach, stand, walk, and use hands to handle objects. Occasionally sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds and rarely more than 100 pounds. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus with or without corrective eyewear.

Computer, database, internet, Microsoft applications, copy machine, fax machine, telephone system, airport handheld radio, and City‑owned vehicles.

Work inside and outside the airport terminal, in inclement weather and near moving mechanical parts. Noise ranges from quiet to moderate, and may be high during emergency response. Employees may be exposed to hearing‑conservation levels exceeding OSHA limits and will participate in the City of Redmond Hearing Conservation Program. Work may require weekends, evenings, holidays, and scheduled on‑call (24/7) shifts.
