Overview
Public Safety Officer — St. Charles Health System, Redmond, OR. Full-time, on-site position with opportunities for career growth. Salary range: $23.74 to $30.39 per hour with applicable shift differentials.
Responsibilities- Perform secure transport and assess the need for restraints, using the least restrictive method in accordance with Oregon statutes.
- Adhere to the St. Charles Behavioral Health code of ethics and integrity guidelines.
- Respond to emergency codes; act as security dispatcher: take calls, coordinate officer movement and priorities, work with tracking software, and complete reports.
- Monitor security cameras and systems; prepare timely and accurate reports (e.g., code gray debriefs, after-action reports, special security reports).
- Monitor and enforce hospital parking rules; escalate policy violations to security leadership.
- Serve as front-line customer representative; greet patients and visitors and provide way finding services.
- Conduct real-time threat assessments and recommend actions for any real or perceived threats to the organization, facility, department, or caregivers.
- Remove items that could be used to injure themselves or others; operate vehicles safely in accordance with traffic laws while transporting patients.
- Provide first aid or CPR as appropriate within scope during emergent situations; complete regulatory-compliant documentation.
- Ensure safety and security of patients, caregivers, visitors, and property; operate metal detectors and inspect entrances and public areas.
- Provide after-hours professional service to patients and families; lead de-escalation efforts as needed.
- Coordinate with Admitting and Nursing staff to monitor entrances; manage crowd control during mass casualty events.
- Monitor cameras and secure doors; respond to alarms; troubleshoot system issues as trained.
- Follow safety rules; function as an unlicensed assistive care provider under nursing supervision; support organizational values and continuous improvement.
- Maintain confidentiality and professional conduct; comply with laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; participate in investigations as required.
Required:
High school diploma or GED. Must be willing and able to complete and maintain specified trainings:
- ODOT Safe Driver Training (4 hours, one-time)
- Workplace Violence Prevention Training (8 hours annually)
- Secure Transport Training (4 hours annually)
- Handcuffing Tactics (4 hours annually)
- Defensive Tactics (8 hours annually)
Preferred: N/A
Licensure/Certification /Registration- Ability to obtain DPSST Armed/Unarmed Professional certification within 90 days of hire and maintain it.
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers within 30 days of hire.
- Code Gray Training upon hire.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license and ability to meet SCHS driving requirements.
- Ability to pass initial 6–8 week officer training curriculum.
- Preferred:
One year of corrections, military, first responder security experience; one year of customer service with heavy public contact; two years of security experience in a hospital setting.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE as required to perform the job safely.

- Never (0%): exposure to elemental factors; wet/ slippery areas; heat, cold, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surfaces.
- BBP exposure: risk category noted; schedule as applicable.
