Only candidates in possession of a valid State of Oregon General Journeyman Plant Electrician License will be considered for this role.
Purpose of PositionPrimarily performs a variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance, installation and repair of electrical components and systems associated with all Airport buildings, facilities, pump distribution systems, high voltage airfield lighting systems, parking revenue, baggage systems, and backup electrical generators provided by the City of Redmond. This position may provide training and direction to other employees in electrical maintenance, repair, and safety.
This position will perform a full range of other facilities maintenance activities, including carpentry, painting, and equipment operation for the Airport.
Essential Job Functions- Maintain and service systems, equipment and devices on all City of Redmond Airport buildings, facilities, and programmable distribution systems.
- Install and maintain electrical systems in City Airport buildings and structures, including power, lighting control, HVAC control, signaling, communication, baggage system, and life safety.
- Service and repair motor control equipment, PLC systems, SCADA systems and other control equipment for City utilities and the Redmond Municipal Airport.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot problems associated with control, mechanical, and electrical systems using appropriate meters and testing equipment.
- Maintain consistency with specifications and the National Electrical Code.
- Establish and implement a Master Permit System for work assignments, maintain accurate records and reports.
- Coordinate and create preventative maintenance schedules for all Airport electrical systems, programmable logic control systems, facility/street lighting, HVAC, soft starts, variable frequency drives, standby generation equipment, pump controls, parking revenue, baggage system, irrigation control systems, and airfield lighting.
- Order and maintain adequate inventory of materials and equipment required to perform duties; keep equipment in working condition.
- Read blueprints, schematics, and maps; assist in development of new plans and specifications.
- Assist Division Managers with training and safety programs related to electrical control systems and electricity.
- Perform mechanical work and repairs on equipment.
- Operate vehicles and equipment safely; conduct general maintenance on Airport buildings, facilities, and vehicles.
- Assist other Airport Divisions with tasks such as lawn care, water meter reading, flag replacement, park irrigation, snow removal, construction, carpentry, remodeling, roofing, woodworking, furniture, signs, and cabinets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent, plus six (6) years of verifiable work experience as a licensed Journeymen or equivalent combination demonstrating ability to perform the above duties.
- Considerable knowledge of electrical repair, maintenance, installation, design; basic understanding of computer systems and programmable logic control systems; ability to analyze and make sound decisions on repair of these systems.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively; follow detailed written and oral instructions.
- Pass a Transportation Security Administration criminal history background check.
- Possession of, or must obtain within thirty (30) days of hire, a valid Oregon driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Possession of a valid State of Oregon General Journeyman Plant Electrician License.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of hire, basic First Aid and CPR certification.
- Class 3 Building Service Mechanic License.
- Four (4) years verifiable work experience with centrifugal/screw type chillers.
- Four (4) years verifiable work experience with Building Automation Systems (Metasys, Niagara, Siemens, Tallon, Reliable).
- EPA Refrigerant license.
- Twelve (12) months verifiable work experience with a municipality or airport.
PPE requirements as outlined in the position specific PPE Hazard Assessment Certification.
Supervision ReceivedEmployee may be assigned to any division within Public Works and is expected to perform duties independently or as part of a work crew often without direct supervision. Generally works under the direct supervision of the Airport Facilities Manager and/or the Airport Facilities Supervisor, and the City Supervising Electrician.
Physical DemandsWork requires frequent walking, sitting, talking, hearing, use of hands, and occasionally climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must frequently lift or move up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally team‑lift up to one hundred (100) pounds. Requires good visual acuity.
