Purpose of Position
Note:
Only candidates in possession of a valid State of Oregon General Journeyman Plant Electrician License will be considered for the role.
Primarily performs a variety of skilled tasks related to the maintenance, installation, and repair of electrical components and systems associated with all Airport buildings, facilities, pump distribution systems, high voltage airfield lighting systems, parking revenue, baggage systems, and backup electrical generators provided by the City of Redmond. This position may provide training and direction to other employees in electrical maintenance, repair, and safety.
This position will perform a full range of other facilities maintenance activities, including carpentry, painting, and equipment operation.
Essential Job Functions- Maintain and service systems, equipment, and devices on all City of Redmond Airport buildings, facilities, and programmable distribution systems.
- Install and maintain, as needed, all electrical systems in the City Airport buildings, structures, and street, including power, lighting control, HVAC control, signaling, communication baggage system, and life safety.
- Service and repair motor control equipment, PLC systems, SCADA systems, and other control equipment for City utilities and the Redmond Municipal Airport.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose problems associated with a variety of control, mechanical, and electrical systems.
- Use appropriate meters and testing equipment in the troubleshooting process.
- Maintain consistency with specifications and the National Electrical Code.
- Follow Oregon Revised Statutes and Administrative Rules in establishing and implementing a Master Permit System for work assignments, and maintain accurate records and reports on completed work assignments.
- Create and follow a preventative maintenance schedule for all Airport electrical systems, programmable logic control systems, and components, including facility/street lighting, HVAC, soft starts, Variable Frequency Drives, onsite emergency standby generation equipment, pump controls for water/wastewater systems, parking revenue, baggage systems, irrigation control systems, and airfield lighting.
- Order and maintain adequate inventory of materials and equipment required to perform duties, keeping equipment in proper working condition.
- Read blueprints, schematics, and maps; understand plans; order additional documents as required; assist in the development of new plans and specifications and interpret existing plans and specifications.
- Assist Division Managers with establishing and carrying out training and safety programs related to electrical control systems and electricity.
- Perform mechanical work and repairs on equipment.
- Operate a wide variety of vehicles and equipment safely and competently in the assigned area.
- Perform general maintenance on Airport buildings, facilities, and vehicles, including safety and operational checks, and clean interiors and exteriors of vehicles regularly.
- Operate a motor vehicle regularly to attend meetings, trainings, inspections, and other situations when necessary.
- Assist other Airport Divisions with tasks such as lawn care, water meter reading, flag replacement, park irrigation, and snow removal; also assist the Airport Facilities Division with construction, carpentry, remodeling, roofing, and woodworking tasks such as building construction, facility construction, fences, furniture, signs, and cabinets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Mandatory Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent plus six (6) years of verifiable work experience as a licensed Journeyman, with training that provides specific knowledge required for the position, or an equivalent combination of experience and training that demonstrates the ability to perform the above‑described duties.
Considerable knowledge of electrical repair, maintenance, installation, and design; basic understanding of computer systems and programmable logic control systems; ability to analyze and make sound decisions on repair of these systems.
Ability to work independently and cooperatively; ability to follow detailed written and oral instructions.
Must pass a Transportation Security Administration criminal history background check.
Special Requirements & Licenses:
- Possession of a valid Oregon driver’s license within thirty (30) days from date of hire; safe driving record.
- Possession of a valid State of Oregon General Journeyman Plant Electrician License.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within six months of hire, basic First Aid and CPR certification.
Desirable Requirements:
- Class 3 Building Service Mechanic License.
- Four (4) years of verifiable work experience with centrifugal/screw type chillers.
- Four (4) years of verifiable work experience with Building Automation Systems (Metasys, Niagara, Siemens, Tallon, Reliable).
- EPA Refrigerant license.
- Twelve (12) months of verifiable work experience with a municipality or airport.
