Grade 9 – Monthly Salary $4,350.00 – $5,534.00

Transportation Operations Utility Worker II

Grade 11 – Monthly Salary $4,795.00 – $6,101.00

Transportation Operations Utility Worker III

Grade 13 – Monthly Salary $5,287.00 – $6,727.00

Essential Job Functions

With daily supervision from qualified personnel, the holder of this position will assist with tasks to maintain streets, alleys, rights‑of‑way, and storm drain facilities within Redmond. Primary duties include:

  • Motor Vehicle Operation: Operates a motor vehicle as needed to attend meetings, trainings, equipment maintenance, or other assignments.
  • Storm and Ice Control: Performs all tasks required for winter operations, operating heavy and light equipment to keep roadways, highways, and bridges open.
  • Street Signs: Operates various equipment—drill motor, post‑hole digger, jackhammer, level, tamping bar—to install signs, posts, and frames.
  • Work Zone Traffic Control: Installs work‑zone signs, performs flagging duties, controls traffic, and cleans roadways during emergencies.
  • Asphalt Repair: Operates equipment for repairing and maintaining roadways, shoulders, and bicycle paths.
  • Road and Alley Maintenance: Adds material and grades roads and alleys with wheel loaders, dump trucks, water trucks, motor graders, and rollers.
  • Street Cleaning/Sweeping: Operates the city’s mechanical and air‑regenerative street sweeper (≈9 months per year).
  • Street Painting: Paints crosswalks, parking stripes, school crossings, railroad crossings, and curb markings using sprayers and stencils.
  • Right‑of‑Way Maintenance: Grading shoulders, mowing, and vegetation spraying with motor grader, flail mower, and sprayer.
  • Concrete Repair: Repairs storm drains, ADA ramps, curbs, gutters, and sidewalks; operates concrete mixer truck and hand tools.
  • Crack Sealing: Seals asphalt cracks using air compressor and crack‑sealing trailer.
  • Performs other duties assigned within the Transportation Operations Division and/or Public Works Department.
  • Works safely per city policies and procedures and maintains effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
Auxiliary Functions

Attend meetings as required and serve on assigned committees.

Qualifications Transportation Operations Utility Worker I
  • Mandatory Requirements: High school diploma or GED, plus 1 year of street maintenance or closely related construction experience.
  • Special Requirements/Licenses: Valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days; safe driving record;
    Class A CDL and ODOT Flagger certificate, First Aid/CPR within 6 months; additional certifications as required.
  • Desirable Requirements:
    • Oregon Public Herbicide/Pesticide Applicator’s License
    • Oregon Roads Scholar Level 1 certification
    • 12 months of verifiable street maintenance experience with a municipal government
    • 12 months of verifiable asphalt/cement repair experience
  • Personal Protective Equipment: As outlined in the position‑specific PPE Hazard Assessment Certification.
Transportation Operations Utility Worker II
  • Mandatory Requirements: High school diploma or GED, plus 3 years of street maintenance, repair, or construction experience.
  • Special Requirements/Licenses: Valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days; safe driving record;
    Class A CDL and ODOT Flagger certificate, First Aid/CPR within 6 months;
    Public Herbicide/Pesticide Applicator License;
    Roads Scholar Level 1 within 12 months.
  • Desirable Requirements:
    • Traffic Control Trainee Certification
    • 5 + years of verifiable government street maintenance experience
    • 5 + years of verifiable asphalt/cement repair experience
    • Competence with Class A commercial vehicles, loaders, skid‑steers, and backhoes
  • Personal Protective Equipment: As outlined in the position‑specific PPE Hazard Assessment Certification.
Transportation Operations Utility Worker III
  • Mandatory Requirements: High school diploma or GED, plus 5 years of street maintenance, repair, or closely related construction experience.
  • Special Requirements/Licenses: Valid Oregon driver’s license within 30 days; safe driving record;
    Class A CDL, ODOT Flagger certificate, First Aid/CPR within 6 months;
