Job Description:
Assistant Dean of Instruction
Reports To:
Dean of Faculty
Position Summary
The Assistant Dean of Instruction provides vision, leadership, and oversight of assessment and instructor preparation across the Institution, including online education and faculty & professional development.
They take an active role in improving course and program delivery, providing resources for structured learning design and faculty support. This role requires effective collaboration with faculty and staff in the analysis, design, and development of instructional programs and learning modules.
Responsibilities
General Leadership
* Provide leadership for the Institute's faculty:
* Protect and maintain a culture of excellence among the faculty.
* Ensure that academic procedures preserve academic freedom.
* Encourage and promote research and scholarly activities.
* Collaborate in review of academic policies with Office of Academic Affairs members
Faculty and Professional Development
* Co-direct the Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence (CTLE), providing leadership in pedagogy and retention efforts. Provide guidance and support for CTLE faculty and staff.
* Oversee professional development budget and expenditures.
* Develop a plan and structure to grow faculty expertise with pedagogy, subject matter content, and durable skills.
* Maintain the policies and procedures associated with online faculty credentialling and development.
* Design and facilitate annual Faculty Orientation event.
* Maintain records of faculty and professional development.
* Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of Faculty Affairs to supervise and improve policies and procedures related to:
* Faculty Assessment
* Course evaluations
* Annual Faculty Review
* Faculty Recruitment and Onboarding
* Search committee oversight
* Curate onboarding pedagogy training
* Faculty mentoring and growth
* Mentoring committees
* Performance Improvement Plans
* Promotion committees
Program Evaluation
* Collaborate with Academic Departments, Program Directors, and other institute partners to deploy and maintain a structured, cyclical program evaluation process.
* Review and validate program models.
* Work with the Office of Academic Affairs and other stakeholders to build an assessment store.
* Collaborate with program directors and instructors to ensure effective use of evaluation findings.
Online Instruction Administration and Support
* Ensure compliance with accreditation and government requirements for online education.
* Develop policies and procedures for online education across campuses.
* Implement a robust assessment and quality assurance program for online learning.
* Collaborate with Online Program Managers and vendors in the delivery of learning opportunities.
* Support development of residential program courses being converted to online modality as needed.
Other responsibilities
* Instructor within one of Digi Pen Institute of Technology's academic departments.
* Participate in professional organizations as appropriate.
* Participate in institutional assessment and strategic planning.
* Attend and participate in regional and/or national meetings related to the position.
* Fulfill other duties, as assigned by the Dean of Faculty, to accomplish the academic objectives of the Institute.
Minimum Qualifications
* Qualified for faculty appointment to a Digi Pen Institute of Technology academic department.
* Ability to work with multiple partners in building consensus and relationships while managing the prioritization of competing requests in a deadline-driven environment.
* Experience in a higher education setting.
* Demonstrated success in an academic or training environment in the development of instructional projects using distributed/distance technologies.
* Three or more years professional work experience providing pedagogical guidance and/or support to faculty.
* Excellent listening and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience managing distributed projects and work forces.
* Experience with program evaluation across system-wide settings, preferably in education.
* Experience with instructional design best practices.
Start Date:
June 1, 2026
Salary Range:
$80,000-$100,000 depending on department and experience
