Student Assistant – Tutor for Academic Support Lab (FWS Preferred) F26–S27
Applicants must be a current student at Digi Pen Institute of Technology. This is an FWS‑preferred position, open to students eligible for Federal Work Study with an accepted award. Students may not work during any time when a class is scheduled or ends early, and must reside within the State of Washington.

Expected number of hours per week: 10 hours maximum
Essential FunctionsTutors work in the Academic Support Lab under the supervision of the Director of the Learning Resource Center to provide drop‑in tutoring sessions for select 100‑ and 200‑level courses. The purpose of tutoring is to increase and enhance mastery of concepts or applications of a specific course of study. Tutoring for Fall 2026 – Spring 2027 will be conducted fully in person at the ASL.
- Work with students to help them understand classroom concepts and effective learning strategies
- Assist students with homework, projects, test preparation, papers, research, and other academic tasks
- Assist students in the subject area assigned
- Review class syllabi, curriculum topics, and assignments
- Hold periodic check‑ins with faculty on subject areas tutored
- Track questions and concepts tutored through routine document submission and practice
Student Employee Academic Requirements:
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better during the period of employment
- Earn a 3.0 or better in the course(s) they wish to tutor
- Be an incoming sophomore, junior, or senior student in good academic standing
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrate student leadership
- Be accountable for tracking and reporting the amount of time worked
- Show a willingness to learn about and work with students from diverse backgrounds
- Be willing to share information about Digi Pen’s student life, academics, campus policies, and campus resources
- Provide at least one faculty reference from Digi Pen
Experience Level: No minimum
Wage RangeWage ranges are based on Washington State’s minimum wage requirements: $17.12 – $18.25 per hour, depending on the number of terms worked at Digi Pen.
Working ConditionsWork will take place in an indoor office setting in the Academic Support Lab or, if services are determined for the contract period to be online or a hybrid, tutoring may be online through Microsoft Teams or another approved medium. The Academic Support Lab (ASL) is open from 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on weekdays during the Fall and Spring semester.
The role requires frequent direct interaction with Digi Pen students and occasionally with faculty or staff. Generally, the job requires 80% sitting, 10% walking, and 10% standing.
