Primary Function

The Mechanical/Equipment Engineer II is responsible for independently designing, analyzing, and supporting mechanical systems and manufacturing equipment. This role contributes to cross-functional project teams by owning subsystem designs, supporting equipment commissioning and process improvements, and developing documentation to support prototype through production environments. This position demonstrates growing systems-level thinking and technical ownership.

Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities
  • Independently design fixtures, tools, and subsystems with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct mechanical analysis (thermal, dynamic, stress) to support equipment and system performance.
  • Own and document fixture and subsystem designs, including tolerances, drawings, and specifications.
  • Create and maintain 3D CAD models and 2D drawings for manufacturing fixtures and tooling.
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate equipment and process performance.
  • Support equipment commissioning activities, including startup planning and acceptance testing (FAT/SAT).
  • Identify and implement equipment and process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, process, quality, facilities) to meet technical objectives.
  • Support root cause analysis and resolution of equipment and process issues during prototype builds and early production.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles in equipment and system designs.
  • Develop and maintain engineering and equipment documentation in compliance with quality system requirements.
  • Follow Business Technology policies to protect sensitive data and reduce information security occurrences.
Education and Experience:

(Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities)
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3+ years of related experience in mechanical, equipment, or manufacturing engineering
  • Experience with mechanical system design, manufacturing equipment, or automation preferred
  • Working knowledge of electro-mechanical systems and manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency with CAD tools such as Solid Works or Creo
  • Experience supporting cross-functional project teams in fast-paced environments
  • Strong problem-solving, organizational, and documentation skills
  • Strong written and verbal English language communication skills
  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one s own work group
  • Demonstrate commitment and adherence to Sigma Design Core Values
  • Pass a post-offer background verification
Work Environment

Standard office environment with normal amounts of office related conditions. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients, or suppliers.
