Overview
Ophthalmic Precision Optics (OPO) Team is seeking a highly skilled Service & Application Engineer to support a cutting‑edge R&D and production lab in Redmond. This role blends hands‑on service engineering, advanced 3D printing, and application engineering for next-generation ophthalmic lens manufacturing technologies.
About the OPO Team- Develops and deploys disruptive optical technologies from early incubation through product integration.
- Operates a state-of-the-art R&D and production lab in Redmond focused on complex 3D printers and advanced optical systems.
The Service & Application Engineer will:
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize large-scale 3D printers used for ophthalmic lens production.
- Support hardware, software, and process upgrades across the lab.
- Collaborate with global engineering and service teams to drive continuous improvements.
- Contribute to R&D by helping prototype, integrate, and validate new optical hardware, materials, and manufacturing methods.
3D Printer Operations & Maintenance
- Monitor daily printer performance and resolve mechanical, electrical, software, or process-related issues.
- Install new printers and implement system upgrades.
- Develop and execute preventive maintenance strategies to maximize uptime.
- Drive 3D printing operations to meet precise optical and lens-design requirements

R&D & Application Engineering Support
- Support experimental builds and Design of Experiments (DoEs) for developing new processes and materials.
- Participate in concept development, prototyping, and integration of new optical hardware.
- Design and deliver prototypes and small-batch components using multiple manufacturing techniques.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work with local and global engineering, service, and applications teams on system improvements.
- Collaborate with teams enabling novel materials, processes, and optical metrology
. - Provide structured feedback and ideas for advancing 3D printing technologies and optical applications.
Travel
- Occasional travel to Meta sites worldwide for installations, upgrades, or technical support.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Mechanical, Materials, Industrial Engineering, or similar.
- 5+ years in service engineering, application engineering, or advanced manufacturing.
- Strong hands-on experience with 3D printers
, electromechanical systems, and manufacturing processes. - Proficiency with 3D CAD tools (Fusion
360, Solid Works, etc.). - Demonstrated ability to perform root-cause analysis and resolve complex technical issues.
- Innovative, adaptable, and fast‑moving problem-solver with excellent communication skills.
- Experience with data analysis and statistics (JMP, Minitab).
- Knowledge of optical and mechanical metrology
, FMEA, and tolerance analysis.
