Position: Software Dev Engineer, Amazon Leo Mission Operations

Description

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low‑latency, high‑speed broadband network connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Role Overview

As a Software Development Engineer you will own the development, implementation, and testing of operational tooling built to execute the Leo mission. You will work with engineering teams across ground and space systems to understand how the system functions and deliver an integrated solution to prepare for and execute the mission. Because of the scale of the mission, you will focus on tooling that supports and enables the Mission Operations team—identifying areas of improvement and initiating changes to improve the productivity of the fleet.

You will prepare for each launch and on‑orbit demonstration, design and conduct operational tests, and drive automation efforts with scalability in mind, ensuring that the constellation functions at peak performance with limited manual intervention. You work alongside flight directors and Leo’s software teams to design and implement operational improvements and tooling, develop and perform analysis on system data, and identify areas and mechanisms for further improvement.

You will build high‑visibility interfaces and analytics tools that transform system data into actionable insights for business and engineering teams. You’ll automate time‑intensive, repetitive tasks and fuse data from multiple sources to create organized, usable repositories that enable self‑service access across teams.

The ideal candidate will be detail‑oriented, have strong organizational skills, be able to work independently, juggle multiple tasks at once, and maintain professionalism under pressure. You should have deep knowledge of software engineering practices, understand how software and hardware systems interact, and can drive design and implementation of operational execution of objectives in complex systems. Familiarity with space systems is desired.
