Role Overview
Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low‑latency, high‑speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world. As an RF Comms Systems Integration and Test Engineer, you will work with a wide variety of functional groups and will be deeply involved in system integration and test of next‑generation Amazon Leo satellites.
The RoleThis is a unique opportunity to define a groundbreaking, high‑throughput wireless solution with few legacy constraints that meets 3
GPP standards. The team works with customer requirements and wireless implementation teams to bring‑up, integrate, tune, and debug advanced PHY/MAC and beam‑forming radio systems for the state‑of‑the‑art satellite communication system.
- As a technical contributor, lead bring‑up, integration, and debugging of advanced PHY/MAC and beam‑forming radio systems.
- Architect, document, and execute 3
GPP‑based testing for satellite‑to‑ground networks; work with vendors to define equipment requirements to achieve 3
GPP conformance. - Collaborate across disciplines—including PHY algorithms, RF design, digital beamforming and antenna, MAC, and firmware—to ensure seamless integration and best‑in‑class wireless performance.
- Understand and test Doppler pre‑ and post‑compensation techniques with CFO/SFO in LEO communication systems; use channel emulators and laboratory testing.
- Trade link budget and verify RF line‑up for payloads in RF and IF configurations.
- Characterize performance, analyze data, root‑cause system‑level issues, and ensure high product quality.
- Manage power, clock, RF, air, and network debugging in the lab.
- Contribute to development‑test bring‑up procedures with Linux, Python, Bash scripting, etc.
- Leverage wireless synchronization and signal generators/spectrum analyzers to verify time/frequency requirements.
- Apply knowledge of wireless system design, integration, BUG fix, and debugging of wireless PHY and RF systems on SoC platforms.
- Understand OFDM and MIMO‑based wireless systems across baseband and RF domains, with solid foundations in communication theory and signal processing.
- Operate lab equipment and monitor debugging setups with reference equipment.
- Write scripts to incrementally change SW/HW pieces and understand their effect on payload through probing RF, IF, clock, and channel quality messages.
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with RF, ASIC, SW, Comsys, Testbed teams, and vendors to advance testing and integration.
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Basic Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience in electrical engineering.
- 5+ years of professional experience in L1/L2 or beam‑forming.
- Experience with RF lab equipment, bring‑up, test, and integration activities.
- Master’s or Ph.D. with emphasis in wireless communication systems.
- Proficiency with modeling in MATLAB and/or C/C++; experience in test automation setup and scripting languages such as Python/Perl/Matlab.
- Broad knowledge to understand end‑to‑end network system architecture from wireless RF and physical layer all the way up to application end‑point.
- 3
GPP NTN and ORAN knowledge for conformance testing. - Experience with leading technical initiatives and key deliverables.
- Ability to work in a small team and drive results beyond expectations.
- Background in wireless LTE, 5G/6G, RLC, PDCP, RRC, and RAN protocols.
- Knowledge of IP, UDP, TCP, HTTP protocols and analysis tools such as Wireshark.
- Experience with current software development processes and tools including Agile, TDD, BDD, CI, Git.
