Lead engineering on projects, mentoring contributors, and responsible for KPIs to ensure project success. Support transition of programs from development to production. Provide operations support for new product introductions and process improvements to improve manufacturing efficiency, ensure product quality, and lower costs for new and existing products. Utilize lean manufacturing methodologies and continuously improve products and processes and participate in quality improvement teams when appropriate.
Create manufacturing BOMs, routers, and work instructions for complex and high‑value processes. Determine and develop the methods, operation sequence and tooling for the fabrication of parts, finishing and assembly of components, sub‑assemblies or final products. Work closely with production and design engineering to implement methods and systems to achieve cost reductions in manufacturing. Develop assembly guides, procedures and illustrations for use in production.
Coordinate activities in evaluation, costing and disposition of discrepant materials, including product returns from customers, purchased items found defective, and in‑house fabrications not conforming to specifications. Assist Design Engineering in conducting research, evaluation and testing of new materials, processes and product failure analysis. Plan and adapt machinery/work centers for optimum utilization and efficient layout. Assist production operation in troubleshooting manufacturing problems on product performance and quality.
Represent the Engineering Department at the Material Review Board (MRB) to disposition non‑conforming material, develop rework/repair procedures, and perform root‑cause corrective action analyses.
Candidate Skills & RequirementsMinimum Requirements:
- Requires a bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related technical field and a minimum of 3 years of experience leading avionics manufacturing in the aerospace industry.
- 3 years of experience in:
- Working with avionics optics
- Manufacturing and testing lighting displays for commercial and military applications using spot photometers, colorimeters, and spectroradiometers
- Working in an AS9100 certified environment
- Performing electronics production manufacturing
- Performing mechanical switch production
- Applying customized paint to achieve targeted lighting and cosmetic requirements
- Engaging in time studies, labor variances, and capacity analyses
- Utilizing Solid Works 3D CAD software
- Leading Green Belt projects, Six Sigma or Kaizen events
- Working with PLM and ERP programs
- Performing project management including planning, scoping and delegating projects
- Developing ROI analyses in proposing new industrial test or manufacturing equipment
- Developing Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA/DFMEA)
- Writing manufacturing acceptance test procedures and reports
- Evaluating performance characteristics through repeatability & reliability studies
- Performing Root Cause Corrective Actions analyses
- Working with GD&T and reading engineering drawings
