Job Overview

WSP is currently seeking a geologist or engineering geologist based out of our Redmond, WA office. The role involves geohazard identification, geotechnical investigation, and geotechnical design across multi-disciplinary projects including linear alignments for pipelines, transportation corridors, and infrastructure siting. The successful candidate will conduct site explorations, geologic logging, and document site conditions in the field, and produce accurate reports and documentation in the office while collaborating with a dynamic and growing team.

Responsibilities
  • Work with project teams on geotechnical and geological engineering projects that involve field observations, data evaluation, and office work.
  • Conduct field assignments such as site mapping, drilling supervision, borehole logging, test pit logging, site reconnaissance, geohazard identification, and construction quality assurance monitoring.
  • Provide technical support for linear infrastructure construction projects to minimize effects of geologic hazards, preparing recommendation reports with senior participation and review.
  • Implement technology while working in the field, including satellite navigation systems, mobile mapping software, and/or geophysical equipment.
  • Support subsurface site investigations involving drilling, soil classification, rock coring and logging, and well installation.
  • Generate, tabulate, manage, and evaluate investigation-derived data.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to execute project work.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Geological Sciences, Geological Engineering, Geophysics, or a closely related discipline.
  • 1–3 years or more of related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and strong writing and organizational skills, adept at expressing ideas effectively and professionally to scientific and non‑scientific audiences.
  • Leadership ability, a positive attitude, and ability to work independently and within groups.
  • Ability to independently tabulate, evaluate, and draw conclusions from assessment data generated from field investigations and site assessments.
  • Ability to perform and coordinate field investigations, write and implement Health and Safety Plans, and coordinate field efforts with clients, peers, and other stakeholders.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation and communication software, technology, and tools.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Capability of working flexible hours to meet project requirements, which may include shifts outside the standard workweek.
  • Willingness to perform construction oversight on construction sites.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Local and national travel (up to 50% of the time) with possible opportunities for long‑term assignments at project sites.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geophysics, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience with geotechnical soil logging, rock core logging, groundwater/surface water sampling, construction oversight, and data evaluation.
  • A client‑centric mindset and desire to work within a larger team focused on timely, high‑quality service delivery.
  • Experience with collecting field data and samples and using field‑based data collection applications.
  • Geologist in Training Certification.
  • Proficiency with GIS, AutoCAD, pLog, or related software.
  • 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR ) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training.
  • MSHA miner training.

Compensation

Expected Salary (all locations): $63,700 – $96,580. WSP USA reserved the right to vary pay based on education, experience, skills, and location.
