Overview

Early Career Geologist – Redmond, WA or Portland, OR. Join WSP’s Earth & Environment Team to conduct due diligence, subsurface investigations, geologic mapping, and remediation projects. Provide technical assistance in the field and generate concise reports in the office.

Responsibilities
  • Support large, diverse projects with emphasis on geohazard identification, field reconnaissance, subsurface investigations, engineering design, construction support, and hazard monitoring.
  • Provide technical support for linear infrastructure construction projects to minimize geologic hazards; prepare recommendation reports with senior participation and review.
  • Implement technology in the field (e.g., satellite navigation, mobile mapping, geophysical equipment).
  • Support subsurface site investigations, including drilling, soil classification, rock core logging, and well installation.
  • Generate, tabulate, manage, and evaluate investigation‑derived data.
  • Conduct mix of office and field work, including overnight travel and fieldwork as required by projects.
  • Work with cross‑functional teams in executing project work and complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company resources and conduct, in accordance with WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs, including potential construction oversight.
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in Geological Sciences, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or closely related discipline.
  • 0–1 years or more of related experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational skills, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to tabulate, evaluate, and draw conclusions from field assessment data.
  • Ability to organize and coordinate field investigations, write and implement Health and Safety Plans, and coordinate with clients, peers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel).
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for both scientific and non‑scientific audiences.
  • Self‑leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi‑tasking, and prioritization in a dynamic environment.
  • Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, and communication software.
  • Track record of upholding workplace safety and adhering to health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Ability to work schedules beyond the typical workweek as needed.
  • Willingness to work on projects across business sectors, often on short notice.
  • Authorized to work in the United States.
  • Travel may be required depending on project‑specific requirements. Travel methods may include boat, small aircraft, helicopters, snow machines, 4‑wheelers, etc.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Geophysics or closely related discipline.
  • Experience in geotechnical soil logging, rock core logging, groundwater/surface water sampling, environmental sampling, construction oversight, and data evaluation.
  • Enthusiasm for engaging with field teams.
  • Client‑centric mindset and desire to deliver high‑quality service.
  • 40‑Hour OSHA health and safety training.
  • MSHA miner training.
  • Proficiency with GIS, AutoCAD, pLog, or related software.

Compensation

Expected Salary: $53,000 – $83,160 (range may vary based on education, experience, skills, and location).
