Senior Structural Engineer – Portland, OR / Redmond, WA
Salary: $112,000 to $170,000/year (based on experience)
Kleinschmidt has a full‑time opening for a Senior Structural Engineer in either our Portland, Oregon or Redmond, Washington offices to manage people, projects, and client relationships, and to perform technical design for hydroelectric, fisheries, and water resources projects.
Hybrid work environment allowed.
Responsibilities- Manage people, projects, and client relationships while performing technical design for hydroelectric, fisheries, and water resources projects.
- Lead technical design work, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and codes.
- Manage project teams that include junior and senior staff, drafters, and coordinators.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, including hydrology/hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, geotechnical engineers, and use structural modeling software.
- Supervise field activities with clients and contractors during project planning and construction.
- Handle multiple projects concurrently, providing overall project management and client coordination or technical leadership across disciplines.
- Mentor junior staff and foster long‑lasting client relationships.
- Licensed Professional Engineer with a BS in Civil Engineering and a minimum of 10 years’ experience in structural engineering.
- Experience with hydroelectric design projects, fisheries or water resources projects.
- Specialty experience in seismic design or finite element modeling (plus); proficiency in analysis and design of concrete and steel structures in water environments.
- Strong understanding of relevant standards and codes.
- Proficiency in analysis and design using software such as MathCAD, RISA‑3D, SAP
2000, AutoCAD, and Revit. - Excellent problem‑solving, oral and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes.
- Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams throughout the project life cycle.
- Permanent authorization to work in the United States and the ability to acquire authorization to work in Canada.
- Willingness to travel and a valid driver’s license.
