Job Description & How to Apply Below
Description
Amazon Leo is Amazon's low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.
This team supports the design and test of complex vehicle power hardware and software systems for Amazon Leo satellites. We are seeking a Senior Build Engineer, who is familiar with designing, prototyping, and building of hardware-in-the-loop test setups that validate complex hardware and software test systems. This role is hands-on and spans flight vehicle design and verification, test infrastructure design reviews, cross-functional technical engagement, and execution of validation campaigns for current and next-generation power components and systems of the Amazon Leo Satellite product roadmap.
You will work closely with Electrical, Systems, Mechanical, Thermal, Reliability, Manufacturing, and external partners to ensure power systems meet targeted performance, safety, and mission requirements.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Key job responsibilities
* Design, prototype, and build novel test venues (hardware-in-the-loop) that validate the performance of Amazon Leo's complex power systems for next generation satellite vehicles
* Work with operators and engineers to troubleshoot anomalies found in production hardware and software test
* Build standard operating procedures to scale routine satellite operations and reduce recurring issues and non conformances
* Collaborate cross-functionally with Power Systems testing stakeholders (electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, etc.) to capture power systems test venue needs and requirements and perform trade-offs to meet those requirements
* Provide test input to vehicle power system design trade studies and support next-generation power systems development
* Design, prototype, and deploy test systems hardware and software to verify and validate power systems performance against requirements.
About the team
The Satellite Power HITL team is responsible for ensuring the safety, performance, and reliability of spacecraft power systems (battery, solar, power distribution, bus, etc.) from early development through production.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field
* 5+ years of experience in a hardware or software test role
* Demonstrated history of building complex, hardware test systems
* Working knowledge of modern scripting and automation tools to control, sequence, and operate tests autonomously
* Experience working on power systems in automotive, autonomy, consumer electronics, energy storage, or other related fields
* Experience selecting and sizing test venue components (DAQs, DC loads, power supplies, etc.) to meet system requirements
* Demonstrated ability to manage medium to large technical projects, including planning, prioritization, cross-functional coordination, and on-time execution in a hardware or test engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
* Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems, or experience leading engineering teams as a mentor or tech lead
* Working knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals (DC circuits, power electronics, sensing, protection) and test equipment (power supplies, electronic loads, DAQs, oscilloscopes, DMMs)
* Experience working on power systems for aerospace programs (drone, launch vehicles, satellites, etc.)
* Experience with technical document creation (SOPs, work instructions, run-books, etc.)
* Experience with hardware-in-the-loop testing of power systems hardware and software
* Demonstrated ability to use AI tools to build mechanism that reduce routine work and bring processes to scale
