Summary
As a Battery System Engineer at Meta, you will take ownership of the Battery pack electrical designs and their integrations to power the state‑of‑the‑art devices developed by Reality Labs. You will work closely with our product engineering teams to define battery requirements, aiming to find optimal options for product volume, weight, and run time. You will provide build support during New Product Introduction activities to ensure that manufacturing processes align with design intent.
Collaboration with safety, reliability, operations, software and other cross‑functional partners will be essential to integrate the battery into the final system and meet system level performance metrics. Supporting final assembly activities at supplier sites to ensure proper integration of the battery into the final system will be part of your duties, as well as assisting the sourcing team with cost analysis, supplier audits, and market analysis.

Work with product groups to define and deliver battery packs as per requirementWork with vendors to develop battery packs per Meta’s requirementsDevelop Electrical and interconnect architectures for battery management systemsDevelop engineering requirements and specifications, test and validate plans for manufacturing and characterization of battery packsDevelop test boards and test fixtures to validate the performance of batteriesDevelop processes, frameworks and best practices to scale designs across multiple programsDevelop Electrical and thermal battery characterization requirementsSupport hardware integration related to interfacing hardware and connection issuesProvide build support during early New Product Introduction builds to ensure that the process can meet the design intentPerform failure analysis, root cause analysis and create corrective action plansCommunicate problems and solutions to cross functional team membersIdentify system interactions and design factors which impact battery module performance such as charge time affected by system thermals and battery age, interaction with accessories and help assist product claims on battery runtimesPerform battery gas gauge performance characterization at both module and system levelsSupport software integration of batteries into system for both functionality and performanceDomestic and international travel to suppliers and test labs as neededMinimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, and/or equivalent industry experience6+ years experience in working with of Li-ion battery pack designExperience with Battery Management systems including fuel gaugingExperience applying electrical engineering fundamentals into product solutionsExperience working on consumer electronicsExperience with PCB schematic capture and layout design with AltiumExperience communicating with and working collaboratively with Product Design engineers and other hardware/software cross-functional team membersPreferred Qualifications
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)Experience in programming in languages such as Python or C and/or other scripting languagesExperience with statistical tools, Design of Experiments and packages such as JMP or MinitabDemonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)Experience with high volume production5+ years of experience in supporting Lithium-ion battery pack designMasters or PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experienceExperience with battery protection circuits, communication protocols such as I2C, UART, charger interactionsElectrical Engineering background in analog and digital circuits, schematic and layout capture toolsDemonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologiesCommunication and presentation skillsPublic Compensation
