Mechanical Engineer - Mechanical Engineer IV
This position supports an initiative to provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity through a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites. As a Tooling Engineer, you will be instrumental in the program's progression from research and development through design validation and into full-scale production. You will develop, design, and implement custom tooling and equipment for the assembly and testing of satellites, translating team requests into user-friendly, cost-effective, and precise systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, design, analyze, and implement custom tooling and equipment for satellite assembly and testing (QTP/ATP).
- Convert requests from various teams into systems that are easy to use, cost-effective, and accurate.
- Manage projects, including cost estimation and scheduling.
- Oversee and support the fabrication, testing, and commissioning of tooling into the manufacturing environment.
- Work in a highly collaborative environment, addressing problems that span a variety of domains.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or relevant experience.
Experience:
3+ years of experience with CAD design of complex systems including 3D modeling, drawings, and GD&T. 1+ years of experience in structural analysis, including hand calculations and Finite Element Analysis. 1+ years of experience with project management, scheduling, and budgeting.
Citizenship:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong background in the design of mechanisms, bolted and welded structures, assembly fixtures, alignment fixtures, test fixtures, rigging, and material handling.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
- Design analysis experience with stiffness/strength, structural dynamics, weldments, and bolted structures.
- Experience designing tooling solutions for aerospace hardware.
- Practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials used in assembly tooling and rapid prototyping.
- Experience with NX 3D modeling package and Simcenter 3D FEA simulation.
- Laser tracking experience is a plus.
- Formal training/certification in Operational Excellence Systems (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) is a plus.
