** Overview*
* Microsoft's Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a Principal Datacenter Mechanical Engineer in the CTO Office of CO+I, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing new products and solutions that improve the performance, efficiency, and reliability of Microsoft's data centers. You will work with a cross-functional team of engineers, researchers, and business partners to identify customer needs, generate innovative ideas, and deliver high-quality solutions.

You will also collaborate with external vendors and suppliers to ensure alignment with Microsoft's standards and specifications.

Cloud Operations + Innovation (CO+I) is the organization that builds, operates, and continuously evolves the infrastructure behind the Microsoft Cloud, powering services used by more than 95% of Fortune 500 companies. CO+I is responsible for the full datacenter lifecycle from global planning and site acquisition through design, construction, deployment, operations, and eventual decommissioning, spanning 400+ datacenters across more than 70 Azure regions, connected by over 600,000 kilometers of fiber.

** Responsibilities*
* + Design and develop mechanical systems and components for data center applications, such as structural engineering, thermal management, cooling, airflow, and acoustics.

+ Perform engineering analysis, simulation, and testing to validate the functionality, performance, and reliability of the products and solutions.

+ Prepare and review technical documentation, such as design specifications, drawings, test plans, test reports, and patents.

+ Support the fabrication, assembly, and installation of the products and solutions in the data center environment.

+ Conduct root cause analysis and troubleshooting of the products and solutions in case of issues or failures.

+ Research and evaluate new technologies and trends in the mechanical engineering field and data center industry.

+ Communicate and present the project status, results, and recommendations to internal and external stakeholders.

** Qualifications*
* Required Qualifications:

+ Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check:
This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Requirements:

+ Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years related technical engineering experience OR Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 12+ years related technical engineering experience OR equivalent experience.

+ 10+ years' experience with mission critical mechanical systems

+ 10+ years' experience with designing systems and/or developing products for industrial or mission critical environments

+

Experience with cross-disciplined systems design (electrical, IT/Telecom, supervisory control and data acquisition)
