The Meta Robotics Hardware team is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer. This role is pivotal in tackling novel mechanical design problems we face including designing and developing complex robotics that balance ergonomics, performance, reliability, and usability while maintaining rigorous safety and quality standards. This role will be part of a team responsible for initial concept development, analytical modeling, prototype design, construction, and testing.

Candidates should be experienced working in a high-ambiguity, deadline-focused environment where full system requirements are seldom known. This team is dedicated to building hardware that enables learning through data collection and testing.

---## Mechanical Design Engineer, Robotics Responsibilities
* Design and Development:
Mechanical design and analysis problems for prototype robotics structures, mechanisms, power transmissions, and systems integration while balancing ergonomics, performance, reliability, weight, and maintainability
* Supporting prototype fabrication and builds:
Working with internal/external partners to support part fabrication and robot builds, fixtures and assembly tooling design, assembly procedures
* Performance testing and failure analysis:
Build subsystem test fixtures, design tests, create test plans, perform tests, measure and analyze data, and refine design assumptions

* Collaboration:

Work closely with a cross-functional team of engineers (EE, SW, Firmware) to deliver complete technical solutions
* Sustaining engineering:
Troubleshooting root cause of mechanical failures, implementing improved designs, testing effectiveness of change##

Minimum Qualifications
* 5+ years of experience in Mechanical Design Engineering and with experience in Machine Design
* BS degree or equivalent experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
* Experience designing complex electromechanical assemblies (e.g. robotics, automotive, aerospace, industrial automation)
* Experience with SOLIDWORKS, Siemens NX, or similar CAD tools
* Experience with prototyping manufacturing processes and materials
* Experience managing time-sensitive projects through to completion while balancing evolving priorities and a broad range of stakeholders
* Experience in tolerance analysis, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
* Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)##

Preferred Qualifications
* Experience driving and leading projects from cradle to grave
* Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
* Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
* Experience in Robotics and consumer electronic product design

United States of America: $144,000/year to $204,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
