Pay Range: $70 - $78/hour. Employee benefits include, but are not limited to, health insurance (medical, dental, vision), 401(k) plan, and paid sick leave (depending on work location).
Key Responsibilities
- Perform laser and radiation safety audits in R&D laboratories.
- Review and approve laser, LED, and X-ray equipment and experiments for safety compliance.
- Conduct laser exposure calculations (MPE, NOHD, NHZ), optical measurements, and X-ray leakage surveys.
- Develop, review, and approve laser safety SOPs and hazard assessments.
- Ensure compliance with ANSI Z136.1, IEC 60825, IEC 62471, FLPPS, and CDPH X-ray regulations.
- Support safety investigations, failure analysis, corrective actions, and FMEA/Fault Tree Analysis.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineering, research, and product teams.
- Support additional EHS programs including LOTO, lab safety, chemical safety, electrical safety, and machine guarding.
Key Requirements and Technology Experience:
- Must have skills:
- Laser Safety, Radiation Safety, CDPH X-Ray Regulations, Lab Audits - Bachelor's degree in Physics, Optical Sciences, Engineering, Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or related field (or equivalent LSO/RSO experience).
- Experience with laser, LED, and X-ray safety in engineering or laboratory environments.
- Strong knowledge of ANSI Z136.1, IEC 60825, IEC 62471, and FLPPS standards.
- Experience conducting safety investigations, field testing, or failure analysis.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Certified or experienced Laser Safety Officer (LSO) / Radiation Safety Officer (RSO).
- Experience in hardware R&D or manufacturing environments.
- Expertise in FDA/CDRH FLPPS reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Hands-on experience performing laser calculations (MPE, NOHD, NHZ).
- Experience with FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, RF/EMF safety, and Ultrasound safety.
