Job Description & How to Apply Below
To continue our efforts in the path to AGI, and as we move closer to a future with intelligent robots and advanced AI models, we're hiring talent across a broad range of disciplines from robotics hardware to system software, machine perception, and artificial intelligence. These crucial projects and initiatives taken on by this team have never been done before, so you have a rare opportunity to help us create new ways people connect around the world.
The Meta Robotics Hardware team is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Technician to be the hands-on bridge between engineering concepts and physical reality. You will work closely with our design engineers to rapidly build, assemble, and test complex robot hardware. You will play a critical role in realizing our vision for advanced robotics by building high-quality prototypes, designing and maintaining test fixtures, and documenting rigorous procedures for assembly, repair, and safety.
Candidates should be comfortable working in a high ambiguity, fast-paced environment where full system requirements are seldom known. The role will be an integral member of a small ME team dedicated to building hardware that enables AI learning through data collection and system testing.
Mechanical Engineering Technician, Robotics Hardware Engineering Responsibilities:
Rapid Prototyping & Fabrication:
Fabricate mechanical components and assemblies using diverse processes including 3D printing, CNC machining, and manual fabrication
Complex Assembly:
Build and integrate structural components, precision actuators and gearboxes, wire electronics, ensuring precision and fit for complex robotic systems
Testing & Validation Support:
Support engineering teams in conceptualizing and executing experiments, running mechanical safety tests (crush/force testing), performance validation, and reliability studies
Lab & Material Management:
Manage lab materials and organization including tools and consumables. Maintain high standards for lab safety, tool organization, and equipment readiness
Instrumentation:
Demonstrate familiarity with standard lab test equipment (e.g., power measurement, LCR meters, data acquisition systems)
Documentation & SOPs:
Create and maintain detailed assembly instructions, test procedures, and maintenance logs to ensure repeatable processes and compliance with safety standards
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with mechanical, manufacturing, industrial, and electrical engineers to provide feedback on manufacturability, assembly issues, and design refinements
Minimum Qualifications:
5+ years of experience in hardware development, prototyping, or manufacturing (robotics, consumer electronics, or automotive preferred)
Strong hands-on fabrication skills (machining, 3D printing, laser cutters, and hand tool usage)
Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., Solid Works, NX, or Rhino) to interpret designs, design tooling, and perform basic modifications to existing parts
Understanding of mechanical safety principles, including contact force and entrapment hazards
Excellent technical writing and documentation skills
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with high ambiguity and rapidly shifting priorities
Experience managing time-sensitive projects through to completion while balancing evolving priorities and a broad range of stakeholders
Experience with rapid prototyping manufacturing processes and materials
Experience influencing design decisions across multidisciplinary teams
Background in high-mix/low-volume transitioning to mid-volume production environments
Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of CNC machining processes — understanding of fixturing, tool access, setup minimization, and achievable tolerances
Degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or related discipline)
Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
Familiarity with soft robotics materials (e.g., silicone, TPU, foams) and integration techniques
Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
Knowledge of Python or scripting for basic test automation or data collection
Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
Experience in conducting mechanical tests (FEA correlation, load testing, or fatigue analysis)
Direct experience with robotic systems — DC motors, actuators, gearboxes, linkage mechanisms
