Job Description – Power PDN Test Engineer

Location:

Redmond, WA (Onsite)

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Power PDN Test Engineer to support power delivery validation for Microsoft Surface products. The ideal candidate will perform motherboard-level power validation, electrical characterization, debugging, and automation while working closely with Microsoft engineering teams to ensure reliable power delivery across consumer hardware platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Execute power delivery validation for DC-DC converters and system-level power management.
  • Perform electrical characterization including output regulation, ripple, transient response, efficiency, voltage noise, and leakage testing.
  • Operate oscilloscopes, SMUs, programmable power supplies, electronic loads, DAQ systems, and related lab equipment.
  • Capture, analyze, and document test results using Microsoft test procedures and reporting templates.
  • Perform first-pass debug analysis and support root cause investigations.
  • Develop or extend Python automation to improve validation efficiency.
  • Generate weekly status reports covering test progress, risks, and issues.
  • Maintain ESD-safe lab practices, calibration records, and DUT traceability.
  • Collaborate with Microsoft engineering teams during validation and debug activities.
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of motherboard-level Power Delivery (PDN) validation experience.
  • Strong experience with oscilloscopes (1 GHz+), SMUs, electronic loads, programmable power supplies, DAQ systems, and current/differential probes.
  • Hands-on experience validating DC-DC converters and power management systems.
  • Proficiency in Python scripting for test automation.
  • Experience reading motherboard schematics and PDN block diagrams.
  • Strong debugging, reporting, and documentation skills.
  • Experience supporting OEM validation processes and standard operating procedures.
Preferred

Skills:
  • Experience with Microsoft Surface or consumer electronics OEMs (Microsoft, Apple, Google, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Samsung).
  • Intel or Qualcomm platform power validation experience.
  • Knowledge of Windows power management (Modern Standby, S0ix, S3/S4/S5).
  • Familiarity with SMPS, LDOs, battery charging systems, and PCB power design.
  • Board-level hardware troubleshooting and rework experience.
