Summary
This position is located within a Region 5 Northern California Forest Service unit and serves as an Air Resource Specialist for various forests within Region 5. The role supports air resource management, regulatory compliance, and protection of resources from air pollution. Major Duties- Research impacted Air Quality Related Values (AQRV) and analyze cause/effect relationships.
- Implement inventory and monitoring methods to identify and evaluate changing conditions of flora, fauna, water, visibility, and other resources at risk from air pollution.
- Provide written recommendations to high‑level management on air resource practices needed on the unit.
- Offer technical advice to fire‑management staff on smoke management in relation to air resources.
- Collaborate with government regulatory authorities on technical aspects of air management.
- Conduct training for unit staff to maintain air‑resource‑management knowledge and skills.
- Maintain an air‑quality monitoring database that provides data and reports for various users.
- Review monitoring and quality‑control plans for special projects.

RequirementsMust be a U.S. Citizen or National. Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt. Candidates must pass a satisfactory background investigation and/or fingerprint check, and E-Verify employment verification. A 1‑year probationary period applies, after which employment will be terminated unless certification is provided that the candidate continues to advance the public interest.
BenefitsPosition located at Region 5 Northern California Forest Office. Pay rates vary by location; see OPM.gov for additional information. This position is not eligible for telework. Candidates may be eligible for programmatic priorities such as CTAP, RPL or ICTAP based on service history. Veterans eligible under VEOA may apply.
