Description
The Relational Database Service (RDS) is one of the fastest growing AWS businesses, providing and managing relational databases as a service. RDS Custom for Oracle Team is seeking talented database engineers who will innovate and engineer solutions in the area of database technology. The Database Engineering team partners with development groups, provides subject matter expertise to feature design, and advocates resolving customer issues.
We are looking for individuals who are enthusiastic about applying innovative ideas to solving real-world customer problems and who are passionate about working with customers. In this role you will act as the “Voice of the Customer” helping software engineers understand how customers use databases. You will be responsible for translating customers needs and use cases into technical innovation and robust engineering solutions on AWS.
- Deep knowledge and experience designing and maintaining Oracle relational databases.
- Experience working directly with customers, resolving database, systems, and infrastructure-related issues, and providing systems architecture leadership.
- Working knowledge of relational database internals (locking, consistency, serialization, recovery paths).
- Working knowledge of at least one scripting language (shell, Python, Perl) and a procedural language for at least one database (PL/SQL, T-SQL etc.).
- Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate across diverse teams to have a firsthand impact on the global customer base; bring a passion for innovation, data, search, analytics, and distributed systems.
- Solve challenging technical problems, at every layer of the stack.
- Design, implement, test, deploy and maintain software solutions to improve service performance, durability, cost, and security.
- Build high-quality, highly available, always-on products.
- Research implementations that deliver the best possible experiences for customers.
As you design and code solutions to help our team drive efficiencies in software architecture, you’ll create metrics, implement automation and other improvements, and resolve root causes of software defects. You’ll also build high-impact solutions for our large customer base. Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders. Work cross-functionally to drive business decisions with your technical input.
Work in a startup-like development environment, where you’re always working on the most important stuff.
AWS values diverse experiences. If you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications, we encourage you to apply. If your career is just starting or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying. Why AWS? Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. We pioneered cloud computing and continue to innovate—customers from startups to Global 500 rely on our products and services.
