Ensuring safe and reliable wastewater service is a top priority for the City. The Wastewater Operations Division operates and maintains over 230 miles of pipe and 22 lift stations to ensure uninterrupted conveyance to King County treatment facilities.
The City’s Public Works Department provides essential services that safeguard public health and strengthen Redmond’s infrastructure as well as its built and natural environment. Guided by our mission to build, operate, protect, and maintain critical infrastructure, utility teams manage wastewater collection, drinking water supply, and stormwater quality in ways that promote sustainability, system reliability, and community trust.
Responsibilities- Ensure regulatory compliance with all applicable wastewater standards and reporting requirements.
- Oversee the maintenance, operations, and repair of City wastewater lift station and related equipment and all elements of the wastewater collection system.
- Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching, and recruitment of staff. Manage performance and professional development.
- Develop, implement, and report on division goals, policies, procedures, and performance metrics.
- Collaborate closely with internal partners from Utility Engineering, other operations work groups, Capital Projects, Utility Billing, Technology Information Services (TIS,) and others.
- Provide high-quality customer service to internal and external customers related to wastewater issues.
Skills and Abilities
Required
- Knowledge of wastewater regulations, safety standards, and emergency response practices.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and monitor the work activities of plans, projects, teams, and programs according to priorities, schedules, and deadlines.
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and respectfully (written and oral) in a variety of situations with diverse audiences and groups.
- Proficient with MS Office applications and experience or ability to learn other software (Teams, SharePoint, building control systems, data loggers, etc.) to accomplish tasks as needed.
- Three years experience in public works operations.
- Supervisory experience preferred; or demonstrated leadership experience or team lead experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent, some college preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of education, experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Valid Washington State Driver’s License required.
- Washington Wastewater Collection Personnel Association (WWCPA) Level 4 preferred.
