Position: Test Specialist (Starlink) - 2nd Shift

X is actively developing the technologies to enable human life on Mars, including the low‑latency, broadband Internet system Starlink.

We are looking for a Test Specialist – 2nd Shift to join the Starlink test and infrastructure team. In this role you will help develop, deploy, support, and maintain solutions for fast and accurate integration testing, working with complex, multi‑disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure optical test systems and areas are operating properly.
  • Perform first‑level triage of test failures by reading and interpreting test logs and telemetry.
  • Build and validate automated hardware test systems for production environments.
  • Fabricate and repair cable harnesses, including crimping, soldering, and assembling connectors.
  • Design and implement assembly fixtures and shop aids to improve manufacturing and test processes.
  • Identify, develop, and provide training to production technicians on new or updated test processes.
  • Create and maintain equipment maintenance and calibration schedules.
  • Manage workload to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and respond to critical requests.
  • Interpret a variety of sources ranging from controlled, released documentation to informal sketches.
  • Identify design gaps, ask directed questions, and apply skill and experience to resolve them, updating documentation to prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe work environment.
Basic Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • 2+ years of professional experience in a hands‑on manufacturing environment or a bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, or science.
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering field.
  • Proficiency in standard computer software (Excel, Word, Power Point, Outlook) and some experience with CAD software (NX, Team Center) and programming (Python, C++).
  • Experience with production and environmental testing (thermal, thermal vacuum, HASS) for electronic assemblies.
  • Experience administering a Linux environment.
  • Basic understanding of networking, including VLANs, name spaces, and routing.
  • Developed and deployed software used in real‑world projects (Python preferred).
  • Ability to read, understand, and follow detailed schematics, engineering drawings, and instructions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong desire and ability to learn quickly, adapt, and innovate.
  • Ability to work both autonomously and as part of a team in a highly demanding, fast‑paced environment.
  • Positive attitude and experience working on a cross‑functional team.
  • Willingness to provide constructive feedback to engineering and production teams to improve tooling designs, processes, and parts.
Additional Requirements
  • Available to work extended hours and weekends as needed; this role covers 2nd shift (typical start time 4 pm).
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted.
  • Repetitive assembly operations, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required.
Compensation and Benefits

Pay ranges by level:
Level 1: $34.00–$40.00;
Level 2: $38.00–$45.00;
Level 3: $42.00–$51.00. Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case‑by‑case basis based on job‑related knowledge, skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is one part of your total rewards package, which may also include long‑term incentives (company stock or cash awards), discretionary bonuses, an employee stock purchase plan, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, short‑ and long‑term disability insurance, life insurance, paid parental leave, and other employee discounts. Paid vacation is 3 weeks, and you are eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year.

Washington State employees accrue paid sick time in compliance with state and federal law. Company shuttles are offered to employees traveling from select Seattle locations to the Redmond office Monday‑Friday.
