The Volunteer and Green Redmond Program Coordinator plans, develops, implements, and manages the City's volunteer engagement program and Green Redmond stewardship initiatives. This position serves as the lead coordinator for citywide volunteerism efforts while advancing environmental stewardship, urban forestry, restoration, and sustainability goals through community partnerships and volunteer engagement.
Working across City departments, community organizations, schools, businesses, and volunteer groups, the Coordinator develops programs, events, partnerships, and systems that increase community participation and support City priorities. Responsibilities include coordinating volunteer opportunities, managing environmental stewardship programs, supporting tree canopy and restoration initiatives, developing outreach and educational materials, cultivating community partnerships, tracking program outcomes, and improving systems and processes that strengthen volunteer engagement throughout the City.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative relationship-builder who is passionate about volunteerism, environmental stewardship, community engagement, and who can balance strategic program development with hands-on event coordination and implementation.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead the development, implementation, coordination, promotion, and evaluation of the City's volunteer engagement programs and initiatives.
- Coordinate citywide volunteer management efforts, including program standards, procedures, volunteer recruitment, training, recognition, data collection, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Manage and grow the Green Redmond program, including restoration projects, stewardship activities, volunteer events, Forest Steward support, community-based environmental initiatives, and implementation of related City plans and priorities.
- Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, businesses, neighborhood groups, non-profits, volunteers, and regional partners to advance volunteerism, environmental stewardship, and community engagement goals.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and technical resource for residents, volunteers, community partners, staff, leadership, commissions, and other stakeholders regarding volunteer and stewardship programs.
- Coordinate volunteer work parties, educational programs, stewardship events, community engagement activities, and special projects; oversee associated logistics, resources, scheduling, site coordination, and program operations.
- Develop and implement outreach campaigns, educational materials, presentations, toolkits, marketing content, email newsletters, and communication resources that promote volunteer opportunities, environmental stewardship, and City initiatives.
- Develop and document program procedures, operational guidelines, charters, best practices, and innovative approaches that improve program consistency, effectiveness, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
- Monitor program performance, volunteer participation, volunteer hours, environmental outcomes, and other key metrics; prepare reports, recommendations, and analyses to support program evaluation and decision-making.
- Develop, manage, and report on program budgets, grants, fees, and other funding resources; track expenditures and identify opportunities to leverage resources and partnerships.
- Provide contract oversight for vendors, consultants, and service providers; ensure compliance with contractual requirements and City policies.
- Mentor interns, fellows, volunteers, volunteer leaders, and other program participants; may coordinate and direct the activities of staff, volunteers, and participants in support of program goals.
- Represent the City at community meetings, regional partnerships, volunteer events, conferences, committees, boards, commissions, City Council, and outreach activities.
- Assist with special projects, programs, and events as assigned.
