Part Time Pet Care Specialist

Job Description PET CARE SPECIALIST Status:
Non-exempt (Hourly)
A Pet Care Specialist is a key team member who assists in meeting or exceeding sales goals by means of impeccable customer service and excellent store operations.

Essential Job Functions:

Customer Service Responsibilities:

Provide a helpful customer-friendly environment

Greet each customer and “celebrate” any dog that comes in Interact with customers to assess their needs and desires. Interaction with customers should be professional and appropriate. Discussions should be focused on nutrition, animal care and product information. Personal conversations should be avoided

Educate customers about products and offer suggestions to meet their needs

Process sales transactions accurately at POS registers and online orders

Product Knowledge and Education Responsibilities:

Demonstrate comprehension and completion of all JRCsParticipate in scheduled classroom trainings

Read Product Training Sheets and complete associated quizzes

Know relevant features and benefits of current food brands and categories

Demonstrate comprehension of basic cat and dog physiology and nutrition

Communicate information consistent with the All The Best philosophy

Utilize knowledge of products and pet nutrition to make recommendations

Team Member Responsibilities:

Work well with others to achieve sales and operational goals and objectives

Take initiative to perform tasks that need to be done at slow times during the day Follows directions from leadership

Support other team members as needed

Have a positive attitude and is willing and able to work at other stores and send help to stores as needed. Creates a positive guest worker experience

Have appropriate, work related conversations with team members

Receive feedback on job elements and implement in ongoing work activities

Arrive on time and ready to work for each scheduled shift

Provides advance notice of any absence in compliance with company policy of at least two hours notice. Notifies supervisor of any tardiness prior to each scheduled shift

Store Operations Responsibilities:

Continually groom the retail floor, stocking shelves and displays as needed

Perform stock maintenance as needed (pricing, rotating, damaged items, etc.)Perform store maintenance and cleaning (daily task sheet, recycling, etc.)Demonstrate comprehension of all participating manufacturer recycling programs, communicates relevant information to customers, and prepares returned packaging for pickup

Maintain stock room in a clean organized fashion

Accurately count out tills and balance cash drawers

Accurately process discounts in POS system

Accurately process price adjustments in POS system

Qualifications:

A concern for the health and well-being of dogs and cats Aptitude for basic customer service and sales techniquesA good eye for detail

Ability to work as part of a team Excellent communication skills

Basic computer skillsA high school diploma or GED Professional appearance and demeanor

Ability to read, understand, and retain written information

Ability to lift 40 pounds

Ability to work varied hours/days to meet the needs of the business

Physical Capacity and Work Environment:

Able to work in close proximity to dogs and cats

Able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. repeatedly, without strain

Able to stand on feet continuously for several hours

Requires full range of motion:

Reach and lift overhead

Bend, stoop, crawl, climb
