Job Description
Security Officer – responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for client premises. Duties include patrolling assigned areas by foot, bicycle or vehicle; monitoring access control and enforcing client policies; responding to emergencies and routine incidents; and providing professional customer service to employees, visitors and contractors.
Essential Functions- Enforce access control policy at all client facilities for employees, vendors, visitors, contractors and vehicles.
- Utilize excellent customer service and communication skills with client personnel.
- Identify clients, vendors, visitors and contractors in accordance with access control policies and report suspicious or prohibited individuals or items.
- Respond to emergency and routine incidents (unauthorized incursions, fire, medical emergencies, bomb threats, hazardous materials, etc.) and partner with local emergency responders.
- Perform risk and threat assessments, conduct security audits and reviews, and identify workplace violence indicators.
- Prepare written and electronic logs, incident reports and other documentation as required.
- Patrol assigned areas on foot, bicycle or vehicle, checking for unsafe conditions, security violations and mechanical problems.
- Protect evidence or incident scenes using barriers, signage and crime‑scene preservation techniques.
- Collect, move or witness destruction of confidential materials and safeguard client proprietary information.
- Stand guard at posts for periods of time and perform related tasks as needed.
- Identify security shortfalls and provide suggestions for improvement.
- Maintain documentation and follow standardized procedures.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have or be willing to obtain a valid Washington State Driver’s License.
- Must have reliable means of communication and transportation.
- Must have the legal right to work in the United States.
- Must have the ability to speak, read, and write English.
- Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.
- Must be willing to participate in pre‑employment screening, including drug screen and background investigation.
A high school diploma is required. Desired experience includes work in the security industry, public service (police, fire) or military.
Competencies- Meet applicable state, county, and municipal licensing requirements for Security Officers.
- Successfully complete classroom and on‑the‑job training.
- Maintain required skills, certifications, or authorizations for assigned accounts.
- Oral and written communication skills; proficiency in English.
- Knowledge of security operations and procedures.
- Valid driver’s license for state of assignment and insurable driving record.
- Ability to learn security and safety devices and controls.
- Basic computer skills.
- Excellent customer service skills with results orientation.
- Ability to track and maintain schedule assignments.
- Maintain professional composure when dealing with unusual circumstances.
- Make judgments regarding site policy and procedures with minimal supervision.
- Be an effective team member and leader, working with little or no direct supervision.
- Write routine correspondence, logs, reports.
- Interact effectively across diverse cultures.
- Take initiative to achieve results and manage multiple assignments concurrently.
- Adapt to changes in the external environment and organization.
- Maintain composure under urgent or pressurized situations.
- Work varied hours, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Perform physical tasks such as climbing ladders, lifting up to 50 pounds, lifting a vehicle door, and carrying out inspections on varied terrain.
- Exposure to weather conditions and occasional use of protective gear.
- Handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Regular use of vehicle may be required; frequent travel in the performance of duties.
