Overview

Space

X is actively developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. The Applications Software team builds mission-critical applications used across Space

X to accelerate launch vehicle production and flight, support Starlink operations, and other systems. We value engineers who treat teammates with fairness, respect, and support.

APPLICATION SOFTWARE ENGINEER

The team is focused on enabling rapid build and reuse of Starship, designing next-generation manufacturing software for high-throughput factories, and platforms supporting concurrent data streams from many assets to manage Space

X's satellite network. We collaborate with engineers across the company on spacecraft operations, Starship flights, changes to Starlink, and related initiatives.

Aerospace experience is not required; we seek smart, motivated, respectful, and collaborative engineers who enjoy solving problems and want to contribute to a high-impact mission. You will own challenging problems and work with a diverse team to design and deliver solutions that support Space

X goals at a rapid pace.

Responsibilities
  • Develop highly reliable software solutions that are used across SpaceX
  • Create new applications that improve how Space

    X operates
  • Build prototypes to prove out key design concepts and quantify technical constraints
  • Own all aspects of software engineering and product development
  • Deep dive into users’ problems to find and create efficient solutions
  • Contribute to architecture, design, and code reviews through collaborative teamwork
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline; OR 2+ years of professional software development experience in lieu of a degree
  • 1+ years of experience in full stack development
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • Programming experience in Python, C#.NET, Go, Scala, Java, or similar object-oriented language
  • 1+ years of experience building single-page web applications
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery concepts
  • Deep understanding of testing, CI/CD, build, deployment & monitoring
  • Expertise in profiling and improving application performance
  • Experience with build systems (Make, Bazel/Pants/Buck, Gradle) and package management tools (pip, npm)
  • Experience with UNIX-like operating systems and tools like Terraform, Ansible, Puppet
  • Experience with in-stream data processing using Apache Kafka, Rabbit

    MQ, Active

    MQ, or similar technologies
  • Production experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Database experience with Postgre

    SQL, SQL Server, or similar technologies
Additional Requirements
  • You may be asked to work extended hours/weekends dependent on launch cadence
  • This role requires onsite work; remote and/or hybrid work will not be considered
Compensation and Benefits

Pay Range:
Software Engineer/Level I: $ - $ per year
Software Engineer/Level II: $ - $ per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related knowledge, education, and experience.

Base salary is one part of a total rewards package including potential stock, bonuses, and stock options, as well as comprehensive medical, vision, and dental coverage, retirement plans, disability and life insurance, paid parental leave, vacation and holidays, and other benefits. Washington State employees accrue paid sick time per state and federal law. Company shuttles are available to select Space

X locations.
