Software Development Engineer, RDS SQL Server

We are looking for a Software Development Engineer to work on the AWS Relational Database Service (RDS) for SQL Server. In this role you will help build and enhance the control and monitoring systems that keep our highly‑available, replicated databases running smoothly for millions of customers worldwide. You will collaborate across teams to design and implement solutions that improve service performance, durability, cost, and security.

Key job responsibilities:

• Resolve challenging technical problems that have not been solved before at every layer of the stack.
• Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative software solutions that transform service performance, durability, cost, and security.
• Build high‑quality, highly available, always‑on products.
• Research and evaluate implementations that deliver the best possible experiences for customers.

A day in the life:

• Build high‑impact solutions that deliver value to a large customer base.
• Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Work cross‑functionally to influence business decisions with your technical input.
• Operate in a startup‑like development environment, focusing on the most important objectives.

Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture experience (design patterns, reliability, and scaling of new and existing systems).
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

Compensation for this position includes a base salary, sign‑on payments, restricted stock units (RSUs), and a comprehensive benefits package that includes health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
