Amazon Aurora is a MySQL and Postgres‑compatible relational database service that combines the speed and availability of high‑end commercial databases with the simplicity and cost‑effectiveness of open source databases. It is powered by an auto‑scaling, auto‑healing, distributed storage cluster with massive worldwide scale. The Aurora Storage platform team seeks experienced software engineers who are excited about building hyper‑scale services across tens of thousands of servers and multiple data centers worldwide.

In this hands‑on role you will own design and development of critical software components for our cloud‑native database services, mentor other engineers, and communicate across teams to deliver high quality code with broad business impact.

• Collaborate across diverse teams and environments to deliver value to our global customers.
• Solve challenging technical problems that may not have been solved before, across all layers of the stack.
• Design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain innovative software solutions to improve performance, durability, cost, and security.
• Build high‑quality, highly available, always‑on products.
• Research and implement best‑practice solutions to deliver optimal customer experiences.
• Build high‑impact solutions for our large customer base.
• Participate in design discussions, code reviews, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Work cross‑functionally and drive business decisions with technical input.
• Operate in a startup‑like environment, prioritizing the most important work.

In addition to the responsibilities above, you will create metrics, implement automation, and resolve root causes of software defects, enabling continuous improvement and operational excellence.

The team values mentorship, knowledge sharing, and career growth. Senior members provide one‑on‑one guidance and thorough but constructive code reviews. The environment encourages taking on increasingly complex tasks and developing engineering expertise.

• 5+ years of software programming experience in at least one language.
• 5+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of leading design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
• Experience as a mentor, technical lead, or engineer team leader.

• 5+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
