Software Engineer, Telemetry; Starlink

Overview

SpaceX is developing technologies to enable human life on Mars. We design, build, test, and operate all parts of the Starlink system—the world’s largest satellite constellation that provides fast, reliable internet to millions. We are seeking world-class engineers to maximize Starlink’s utility for communities and businesses around the globe.

As a software engineer on the Starlink program, you will solve challenges that improve our ability to fully utilize deployed hardware and provide customers with the best possible satellite internet experience, including expanding access to under-served communities.

• Design, build, and operate a highly reliable, distributed telemetry platform capable of ingesting, processing, storing, and querying data at petabyte scale
• Collaborate with other engineers on architecture, design, and code reviews
• Partner closely with satellite and rocket teams to understand mission needs and translate them into elegant technical solutions
• Take full end-to-end ownership of the complete software and hardware stack
• Deep dive into business problems, find efficient solutions and apply first principles thinking

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, engineering, math, physics, or a scientific discipline; OR 2+ years of professional software experience in lieu of a degree
• 1+ years of experience in full stack development, software engineering, data engineering, or data science

• Programming experience in C#, Java, or similar languages
• Experience designing, building, and optimizing large-scale distributed systems for processing and querying high-volume data
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and containerized deployments
• Working knowledge of Linux, version control, testing, CI/CD, deployment, and monitoring systems

• Willing to work extended hours and weekends when needed

• Software Engineer/Level I: $ - $ per year
• Software Engineer/Level II: $ - $ per year
• Salary is determined on a case-by-case basis based on knowledge, education, and experience
• Base salary is part of a total rewards package including stock options, discretionary bonuses, and a comprehensive benefits program (medical, vision, dental, 401(k), disability and life insurance, parental leave, paid time off, holidays, and other discounts)

Note:

You may accrue 3 weeks of paid vacation and be eligible for 10 or more paid holidays per year; paid sick leave accrues per company policy.
