Amazon Web Services is hiring a Software Development Engineer III for the RDS for Oracle team. We are looking for an experienced engineer to design and build the next generation of managed database services that power mission-critical applications worldwide.
As a Software Development Engineer III on the RDS for Oracle team, you will own the design and implementation of complex features that scale to millions of database instances. Your work will span kernel‑level optimizations, storage architecture, customer‑facing APIs, and operational tooling, directly impacting how enterprises run critical databases on AWS.
Key Responsibilities- Lead the architecture and design of large‑scale, distributed database systems using RDS Oracle in AWS cloud environments, optimizing performance for high availability and scalability.
- Develop solutions that integrate Linux‑based RDS Oracle with AWS infrastructure and design integrations between Oracle and other AWS services such as EC2, VPC, and IAM.
- Serve as a technical lead for enterprise‑level database services, addressing complex customer requirements and concerns; collaborate with account managers and solution architects to design and implement database solutions that meet specific enterprise needs.
- Engage directly with customers to gather requirements, provide technical consultations, and support complex implementations, translating customer needs into technical specifications and product roadmap items.
- Lead agile development cycles to prototype, develop, and deploy new database features and improvements, balancing speed of delivery with code quality, security, and scalability requirements.
- Develop and implement strategies for managing database performance at massive scale, supporting thousands of concurrent customers, including advanced monitoring, troubleshooting tools, and sophisticated automation systems.
- Integrate AI and ML technologies to enhance database performance, security, and ease of use.
- Ensure all database solutions meet required security standards and compliance regulations such as FedRAMP, GDPR, and HIPAA, while implementing security best practices for database management in cloud environments.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members, conduct design reviews, and offer feedback on architecture, performance, and scalability issues; create comprehensive technical documentation for internal teams and customers.
- 7 or more years of software development experience, with deep expertise in at least one of the following: database systems, distributed systems, storage architecture, or systems programming.
- Strong fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and system design.
- Proficiency with C, C++, Java, or Python.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Experience leading design or architecture of new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling.
- Experience as a mentor, tech lead, or leading an engineering team.
- Experience with relational databases, particularly Oracle.
- Experience working on cloud infrastructure or managed services.
- Experience with AWS services or similar cloud platforms.
- Contributed to open‑source projects.
- Experience with operational excellence practices and incident response.
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent.

The base salary range for this position is – USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs); final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
