Software Development Engineer, Aurora Open Source engines

The Aurora organization is looking for software developers in performance engineering to deliver optimization of open source and cloud native databases. You will build upon AWS’ advanced infrastructure innovations to deliver software optimizations that fully exploit cloud capabilities.

• Design and develop innovative software solutions to enhance the performance, availability, and durability of Amazon Aurora.
• Collaborate with a team of engineers to push the boundaries of the PostgreSQL engine and storage integration.
• Write high-quality, efficient, and maintainable code adhering to best practices.
• Contribute to the design and implementation of new features and functionalities within Aurora.
• Troubleshoot and debug complex technical issues related to Aurora’s functionality.
• Stay up-to-date on the latest advancements in database technologies and PostgreSQL developments.
• Build high-impact solutions to deliver to our large customer base.
• Participate in design discussions, code review, and communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Work in a startup‑like development environment, focusing on the most important projects.

You will work with Aurora engineering teams and customers to analyze workloads, engineer solutions to drive performance improvements, create metrics, implement automation, and resolve root causes of software defects.

• 3+ years of professional software development experience (non‑internship).
• 2+ years designing or architecting new and existing systems (design patterns, reliability, scaling).
• Experience designing and developing large‑scale, multi‑tiered, multi‑threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
• 1+ years of Object‑Oriented Design experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field.
• Experience programming with at least one software programming language.

• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.

Base salary range: $ – $ USD annually (USA, WA, Redmond). Salary and benefits include sign‑on payments, restricted stock units, comprehensive health insurance, 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
