Virtual Volunteer Math Tutor

Program Overview

Join EnCorps’ STEMx Tutors program to virtually tutor math to middle school students who are under-performing in Foundational Math, Pre‑Algebra, and Algebra I. As a volunteer math tutor, you prepare students for the rigor of high school mathematics and establish the foundational knowledge needed to pursue a college education that prepares students for a career in an increasingly technical world. EnCorps STEMx Tutors make a significant difference in a student’s relationship with math: 86 % of students who take part in the program increased their math scores in the 2023‑24 academic year!

• Commit to tutoring one hour, twice a week.
• Sessions for 2:1 tutors take place for one hour, at the same time, twice a week between 12 :00 – 5 :30 p.m. PST. Sessions for a 1:1 tutor are scheduled at mutually agreed times.
• Commit to a minimum of one semester, with the option to renew.

• Have a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (does not have to be in a STEM field) and at least 1 year of hands‑on STEM industry work experience or an advanced degree in a STEM field.
• Junior or senior in a college‑accredited STEM bachelor’s program with a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
• Hold a professional certificate in a STEM field and have at least 1 year of hands‑on STEM work experience.
• Be a current or former credentialed math teacher.
