Job Description & How to Apply Below

Inglewood Unified School District is seeking dynamic, creative, and student-centered Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) Facilitators to provide engaging arts learning experiences for students across District schools and programs. VAPA Facilitators may support instruction in Music, Visual Art, Theatre, Dance, or multiple artistic disciplines, depending upon their background, expertise, and the needs of the assignment. Facilitators work collaboratively with school staff to create meaningful learning experiences that promote creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, self-expression, and student voice.

Assignments may vary by school site, program, grade level, day of the week, number of hours, and duration. Candidates may therefore be considered for assignments based upon both their qualifications and their stated availability.

VAPA Facilitators are at-will, unrepresented hourly employees.

Placement on an eligibility or candidate list does not guarantee a specific assignment or minimum number of hours.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal VAPA Facilitator combines strong artistic knowledge with the ability to engage students in relevant, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.

  • Successful candidates will demonstrate expertise in one or more VAPA disciplines and an understanding of how the arts can support creativity, collaboration, communication, critical thinking, confidence, and belonging.
  • Strong candidates will understand contemporary instructional approaches, including 21-century learning skills, project-based learning, Common Core State Standards, and the California Arts Standards/Visual and Performing Arts framework, and will be able to translate those concepts into meaningful experiences for students.
  • The District is especially interested in candidates who are flexible, dependable, collaborative, culturally responsive, comfortable working with diverse student populations, and able to adapt instruction to different grade levels, school environments, schedules, and program needs.
Why Join Inglewood Unified School District?

At Inglewood Unified School District, employees have the opportunity to contribute directly to the success and well-being of students while serving a vibrant and diverse community. The District is committed to educational environments grounded in high expectations, belonging, meaningful relationships, creativity, collaboration, and respect for the talents and experiences each person brings to the community.

For VAPA Facilitators, IUSD offers an especially meaningful opportunity: the chance to introduce students to artistic experiences that can uncover talents, strengthen confidence, create connection, and change how young people see themselves and their possibilities. Because assignments may occur across different schools, grade levels, disciplines, and programs, facilitators may also have opportunities to contribute their unique artistic expertise in flexible and innovative ways.

Candidates will identify the VAPA disciplines in which they possess sufficient knowledge and experience to independently facilitate student learning:

  • Music - including vocal music, instrumental music, general music, music appreciation, composition, production, or related areas.
  • Visual Art - including drawing, painting, mixed media, sculpture, digital art, design, photography, or related areas.
  • Theatre - including acting, improvisation, storytelling, performance, technical theatre, play development, or related areas.
  • Dance - including creative movement, choreography, performance, culturally responsive dance forms, or related areas.
Role Within the District

The VAPA Facilitator expands students’ access to high-quality arts experiences and supports the District’s commitment to developing the whole child. Working within established District and school-site expectations, facilitators create spaces where students can explore, create, perform, problem-solve, collaborate, and develop confidence through the arts. The position also supports interdisciplinary learning by connecting arts experiences to academic content, authentic problems, student interests, culture, community, and real-world application.

VAPA Facilitators serve as positive adult models and contribute to school environments in which students feel valued, challenged, supported, and inspired to participate.
