Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Principal/Sr. Principal Safety Systems Engineer – Level 3 or 4 to join our team in Redondo Beach, CA, and this role is 100% onsite.

• Reviews product designs, associated support equipment and facilities, functional specifications and operations, and establishes safety requirements for assigned systems.
• Independently analyzes and recommends safety criteria in system design, equipment, and procedures to control or eliminate hazards.
• Develops safety documents as required to support customer and test/operational range requirements.
• Interfaces with engineers to validate safety controls and gather verification evidence.
• Supports operational safety activities during manufacturing, integration, test, and launch.
• Participates in accident investigations involving damage to products or related facilities and assists in identification of causes and corrective actions.
• Evaluates the interrelationship of system safety requirements and other aspects of concept design and development requirements to ensure the most cost-effective program.

• Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 5+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR
• Master's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 3+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience OR
• PhD in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) discipline with 1+ years of Engineering/Systems Safety experience
• System Engineering background with System Safety experience

Candidate must have an active DOD Top Secret security clearance at time of application and prior to start date; a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) with investigation date/periodic review completed within the last 5 years; and the ability to obtain and maintain active SCI access within a reasonable period of time as determined by the company. Continued employment thereafter will be subject to the candidate’s maintenance of the level of clearance and program access required for the position in the future.
