Mechanisms Technician

As a Mechanisms Technician at Impulse, you will support the assembly, integration, test, and maintenance of spacecraft mechanisms and mechanical subsystems. This role works hands-on with precision hardware that must perform reliably in launch and space environments, following detailed procedures and strict quality standards.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble, integrate, and test spacecraft mechanisms including: hinges, latches, deployment systems, actuators, and release mechanisms
  • Follow detailed work instructions, engineering drawings, and procedures for flight and development hardware
  • Perform mechanical inspections, torque verification, alignment, and fit checks
  • Support functional testing, environmental testing, and troubleshooting of mechanisms
  • Document build steps, nonconformances, and test results in manufacturing and quality systems
  • Maintain cleanliness and configuration control of flight hardware
  • Work closely with engineers, quality, and other technicians to resolve issues and improve processes
  • Support rework, repair, and root-cause investigations as needed
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate
  • Technical background in mechanical systems, aerospace manufacturing, or related field (trade school, military, or equivalent experience).
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with precision mechanical assembly
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and GD&T as well as assembly procedures and specifications
  • Proficient with hand tools, torque tools, and measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches)
Preferred Skills and Experience
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with mechanisms/components working on aerospace, spacecraft, satellite, launch vehicle or defense manufacturing
  • Familiarity with cleanroom or controlled assembly environments
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience with mechanism testing (functional, deployment, or life-cycle testing)
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as required
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, overtime, or shifts as needed to support program milestones

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.

Impulse Space's spacecraft manufacturing business is subject to U.S. export regulations including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
