Software Engineer - National Security Systems Operations & Maintenance (Redondo Beach, CA)

Overview:
We are an operations and maintenance program-not a product development organization. We inherit national security systems once they become operational and serve as the primary maintainers of these mission-critical tools. Our job is to keep deployed systems running, continuously update and enhance them as customer needs evolve, and add new capabilities directly without sending products back to development.
The Mission:
When there's an anomaly, mission outage, or system failure, we're the first line of contact. We diagnose issues, repair systems, restore operations, and apply enhancements-all while working directly with national security customers and operational sites. Anomaly support is the core of what we do.
What You'll Be Doing:

• Maintain and troubleshoot C++ software in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) environment across VMs, servers, and workstations
• Debug and fix anomalies in operational software-often code written by others
• Understand what code is supposed to do vs. what it's actually doing, identify why it's failing, and make modifications that fix the issue
• Test your changes to confirm the fix works and no new issues were introduced
• Design, code, and unit test new software capabilities based on technical requirements
• Collaborate with subject matter experts and senior engineers across multiple software subsystems
• Travel onsite when required to support operational sites

Required Qualifications:

• Active TS/SCI clearance
• Strong understanding of how software integrates with Linux operating systems (RHEL preferred)
• Programming/scripting experience in C, C++, Perl, Python, or similar languages
• Experience maintaining and supporting code-not just writing it
• Proven ability to debug, troubleshoot, and fix anomalies in live operational environments
• Ability to work 100% onsite in a SCIF environment in Redondo Beach, CA

What We're Really Looking For:
This isn't about being able to write code from scratch. It's about understanding what goes into developing code so you can effectively troubleshoot and sustain complex operational systems. We need people who can analyze, fix, and verify someone else's code in a live operational environment-under pressure, when systems are down and missions are at stake.

Work Environment:
This position is 100% onsite in a Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) in Redondo Beach, CA. No remote or hybrid options available. Travel to operational sites may be required.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Redondo Beach, CA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $85.00/hr.
