The company is rebuilding U.S. nuclear fuel production capacity-an industrial capability central to national security, grid stability, and the accelerating energy demands of AI-driven infrastructure. Operating in one of the most regulated and geopolitically sensitive sectors in the U.S. economy, General Matter is scaling quickly with a lean, execution-oriented team.
General Matter is hiring a Deputy General Counsel to serve as the second legal leader at a pivotal moment in the company's growth. This is a foundational build role-not stewardship within a mature legal department. Legal complexity has already outpaced a single operator, and the mandate is clear: design and implement scalable legal and compliance infrastructure to support commercial expansion and regulatory rigor.
The Deputy General Counsel will work closely with the General Counsel and executive team to architect the company's commercial contracting processes, export control frameworks, and classified data compliance systems. The role includes negotiating sophisticated commercial agreements, partnering directly with engineering and operations teams working with sensitive technologies, and embedding disciplined risk management into day-to-day operations.
This position sits at the intersection of commercial growth and federal oversight. Export controls, defense-adjacent compliance, and highly regulated operational frameworks are core to the business. The Deputy General Counsel will help shape governance, risk posture, and legal operations in real time while maintaining execution speed and organizational agility.
The ideal candidate is a senior legal operator comfortable in complex, highly regulated environments. You bring sound judgment, operational calm, and a builder mindset. You are equally comfortable negotiating sophisticated agreements and designing durable compliance systems.
