Northrop Grumman’s Space Systems Sector is seeking a Systems Engineer – Level 5 in Redondo Beach, CA. The role is contingent upon capturing program award(s), obtaining and maintaining associated business and/or customer funding, and achieving final clearances and program access within a reasonable time.

Job Responsibilities
  • Drive development and execution of features for satellite ground systems, reading CAMEO/MBSE models.
  • Participate in working groups, research customer needs and interfaces, and translate them into digital artifacts to enable software implementation.
  • Support and/or lead development of verification planning, test requirements, and other key products.
  • Work across systems engineering disciplines: requirements & verification, interfaces, architecture, design, integration, test, and sell‑off.
  • Engage in sprint planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives, and reviews while maintaining alignment with product vision and mission goals.
  • Provide subject‑matter expertise in Space‑Vehicle Command and Control System areas and collaborate with other teams and unit‑level engineers supporting subsystems.
  • Conduct demos and briefings for customers and senior leadership.
  • Ensure seamless integration of capabilities, epics, and features with ground satellite software systems solutions.
  • Utilize Atlassian tools, including Jira dashboards and Confluence knowledge bases.
  • Support and/or lead preparation and execution of milestones and Agile product increments.
  • Engage with multiple working groups and control boards.
  • Additional specifics of responsibilities can be tailored based on the skillset and experience of the selected candidate.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline with 12+ years of engineering experience; or Master’s degree with 10+ years; or PhD with 8+ years.
  • Active SCI clearance at the time of application and continuing maintenance thereafter.
  • 2+ years of experience developing and evaluating behavioral and structural architecture diagrams using MBSE methodology and tooling.
  • 2+ years of experience with No Magic Cameo or equivalent.
  • Experience with space‑vehicle, command‑and‑control, mission management, or related software subsystems.
  • Demonstrated written and oral communication skills through written requirements, test, and evaluation criteria.
  • 2+ years of experience with Systems Engineering processes and artifacts development supporting software development, including use cases, interface control documents, class diagrams, sequence diagrams, database design, schema development, and protocols (REST, HTTP, RESP or equivalent).
  • Experience working on Agile programs and methodology.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience with command‑and‑control, network management, flight dynamics, or orbit determination for space‑vehicle related software systems.
  • Experience with Space Vehicle Subsystems (thermal, power, attitude control, propulsion, communications).
  • Familiarity with cloud‑based architectures such as Kubernetes, containers, and orchestrators.
  • Experience with mission‑focused threads and software development lifecycle.
  • Experience with JIRA/Confluence and working with geographically distributed teams.
  • Experience with Automated Test and Integration frameworks, including Playwright.
