Responsible for the safe and timely transport of containerized freight between the port, our warehouse, and local customer locations. This role requires a strong understanding of port procedures, container yard operations, and safe driving practices.
Responsibilities- Operate Class A tractor-trailer vehicles to transport cargo containers to and from ports, warehouses, rail yards, and customer sites.
- Inspect vehicle before and after trips and report any issues to the maintenance team.
- Ensure all loads are secured properly and comply with DOT and company safety standards.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date trip logs, BOLs (Bills of Lading), and delivery documentation.
- Communicate with dispatch for updates, routing, and instructions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local regulations, including port and terminal entry procedures.
- Assist with occasional loading/unloading at warehouse or delivery points if needed.
- Adhere to schedules while prioritizing safety and compliance.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- TWIC Card required for port access.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent Class A driving experience, preferably in a CFS or intermodal environment.
- Knowledge of port terminal procedures (e.g., Pier Pass, chassis swaps, container pickups/returns).
- Familiarity with DOT regulations and ELD systems.
- Strong time management and communication skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and work in varying weather conditions.
- Experience working with containerized freight and port operations.
- Forklift certification a plus.
- Basic knowledge of warehouse receiving and dispatch procedures.
- Majority of time spent driving locally or regionally (home daily in most cases).
- May be required to wait at port terminals or customer docks.
- Occasionally work in warehouse or yard settings for equipment checks or coordination.
