About Shining Stars Residential Care Shining Stars Residential Care is a childrens home in Redruth, Cornwall, built around a simple belief: every young person deserves the opportunity to feel safe, valued, supported and able to achieve their potential. We provide a warm, nurturing and aspirational home for children and young people aged 817. Our approach is trauma-informed, relationship-based and genuinely child-centred, recognising that every child has their own story, strengths, needs and ambitions.

Will this improve a childs life? The role As a Childrens Residential Support Worker, you will be one of the people who make our ethos real every day. You will help create a safe, consistent and genuinely caring home in which children can build trusting relationships, experience positive routines, have fun, develop independence and begin to see what is possible for their future.

Residential childcare can be demanding. Children may communicate distress through behaviour, and there will be occasions when you need to remain calm, emotionally available and professionally curious during difficult situations. Equally, the role brings the opportunity to share achievements, celebrate progress and be part of the everyday moments that can make a lasting difference. What you will do Build safe, trusting and consistent relationships with children and young people.

Provide warm, trauma-informed and relationship-based care, responding to behaviour with curiosity, empathy, clear boundaries and appropriate professional challenge. Support children with daily routines, education, appointments, activities, family time and community involvement. Help children develop confidence, practical life skills and increasing independence, appropriate to their age and individual plan. Encourage interests, hobbies, friendships, achievement and ordinary childhood experiences from cooking together and days out to helping with homework or simply being there to listen.

Act as a positive role model and key adult, promoting dignity, respect, equality and high aspirations. Support children to express their wishes and feelings and ensure their voice meaningfully influences their care and life within the home. Contribute to care planning, key-working, risk assessment and review processes. Maintain accurate, timely and professional records and participate fully in handovers and team communication.

Work collaboratively with colleagues, families and relevant professionals including education, health and social care services. Follow safeguarding procedures, maintain professional boundaries and raise concerns promptly and transparently. Contribute to the practical running of a family-style home, including meal preparation, household routines and maintaining a welcoming environment. Work flexibly across the rota, including weekends, evenings, waking nights and sleep-ins as required.

The person we are looking for We are interested in the person behind the CV. Experience in residential childcare is valuable, but we also recognise the strength of transferable experience from education, SEN, health and social care, learning disabilities, youth work, family support or other roles involving children or vulnerable people. Most importantly, we are looking for people whose values genuinely align with ours.

Naturally caring, compassionate and able to build relationships without losing professional boundaries. Emotionally resilient and able to remain calm, thoughtful and consistent when situations are challenging. Positive, energetic and willing to get involved in activities and everyday family life. A strong communicator who can listen to children as well as communicate professionally with colleagues and external agencies.
