Lab & Facilities Manager

Pheast is seeking a talented and highly motivated Lab & Facilities Manager to join our growing team. This role owns lab operations and facilities execution, ensuring the workplace is safe, compliant, efficient, and well-supported. The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced startup and collaborate effectively across scientific and operations teams. This position will report to the Associate Director, Business Operations.

• Support R&D teams to enable ongoing research by owning lab operations end-to-end, including: lab materials inventory and verifying receipt of supplies; lab equipment maintenance; shipping/receiving/cataloguing materials for research projects
• Orient and train lab users on lab best practices; maintaining a safe and healthy laboratory workspace
• Serve as the point of contact for lab and facilities vendors, evaluate alternatives/cost savings, and manage essential services (e.g., LN2, vacuum, CDA, lab coats, chemicals, waste); anticipate and communicate updates to team
• Ensure operational continuity for critical infrastructure such as HVAC systems, cold storage monitoring/alarms, and providing after-hours response and coordination with building engineering/facilities contacts
• Maintain shared spaces and core lab activities, including glasswash/autoclave; maintain safety showers, eye wash stations, sprinklers, fire extinguishers, spill kits
• Lead EHS / biosafety execution: ensure compliance, manage lab inspections, support safety trainings, and partner with Biosafety Officer and EHS consultants on SDS, waste programs, and compliance documentation (e.g., CERS/calEPA)
• Update and maintain company-wide databases for equipment, supplies, and vendors; continually evaluate and improve processes
• Support animal care facility operations and serve as backup technician when needed.
• Adhoc support to G&A/Admin teams as time permits to support events, weekly lunches, receiving/stocking of kitchen supplies, as well as general office support for repairs, work orders, light assembly, etc.

• BS/BA in a related field (e.g., chemistry, biochemistry, bioengineering, biology) and/or equivalent practical experience; demonstrated lab operations experience appropriate for a manager-level scope
• Previous experience in an animal care facility
• DOT certification; experience working with hazardous materials
• Demonstrated proficiency in lab equipment maintenance/troubleshooting, sterile lab etiquette, chemical hygiene, and common biotech lab practices; strong working knowledge of biological safety, chemical safety, and general lab safety.
• Experience working in a BSL-2 or BSL2+ environment; experience enforcing/working within biosafety programs
• Strong organizational and recordkeeping skills; highly proactive, resourceful, and able to prioritize in a dynamic environment
• Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams; comfort communicating operational updates and driving process improvements
• HVAC/facilities-relevant knowledge (e.g., vacuum, CDA, exhaust) to effectively partner with facilities/building engineering
• Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
