Position: Vote Center Representative (Extra Help, Seasonal)

Vote Center Representative – San Mateo County Registration & Elections Division

We are seeking seasonal Vote Center Representatives to assist in the upcoming June 2, 2026 Statewide Direct Primary Election. This is an excellent opportunity to be involved in the election process.

Responsibilities
  • Use an iPad tablet to verify voter eligibility.
  • Provide voters with information about the current election.
  • Guide voters on the use of electronic ballot marking devices.
  • Operate office equipment including Windows laptops, printers, and iPad tablets.
  • Assist voters with registering to vote and casting their ballot.
  • Issue ballots using Windows laptops.
  • Maintain accurate files and records.
  • Secure election materials and supplies to maintain the integrity of the election.
Work Schedule

4‑Day Vote Centers (approximately 1 in 8 positions):

  • 2 days of onboarding and training (dates in April and May, flexible).
  • Set‑up: 4 hours on May 28 or May 29, assignment determined individually.
  • Early Voting:
    May 30 – June 1, 8 AM – 6 PM weekdays and weekends.
  • Election Day:
    June 2, 6 AM – 11 PM (extended shifts possible).

A few positions at 4‑Day Vote Centers will be assigned only one day of Early Voting, with onboarding, training, and Election Day remaining mandatory.

Approximately 1 in 8 positions will work at an 11‑Day Vote Center
:

  • 2 days of onboarding and training (dates in April and May, flexible).
  • Set‑up: 4 hours on May 22.
  • Early Voting:
    May 23 – June 1, 8 AM – 6 PM weekdays, weekends, and Memorial Day.
  • Election Day:
    June 2, 6 AM – 11 PM (extended shifts possible).

Approximately 1 in 16 positions will work at a 30‑Day Vote Center
:

  • 2 days of onboarding and training (dates in April, flexible).
  • Set‑up: 4 hours on May 1.
  • Early Voting:
    May 4 – May 22, 8 AM – 6 PM weekdays.
  • Early Voting:
    May 23 – June 1, 8 AM – 6 PM weekdays, weekends, and Memorial Day.
  • Election Day:
    June 2, 6 AM – 11 PM (extended shifts possible).
Qualifications
  • Strong organizational abilities, computer proficiency, and attention to detail.
  • Good knowledge of vote center procedures advantageous but not required.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, learn quickly, follow oral and written directions, and interact positively with the public.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Tagalog/Filipino, Korean, Burmese, Hindi, Japanese, Indonesian, Vietnamese, or Thai desired but not required.
Compensation & Employment

The position is classified as Office Assistant I with a starting hourly wage of $26.33.

This is an extra‑help, at‑will assignment paid on an hourly basis. Hours are dependent on business needs and may vary from week to week. Extra help employees shall not exceed 1,040 hours per fiscal year. Some positions may be eligible for benefits under the Affordable Care Act. Employees are not guaranteed permanent status at the end of the assignment.

Ongoing assignments may require overtime, including long hours, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Hours over 40 per week will be compensable at one and one half times the hourly rate.

One‑day hiring events will be held online on the following dates. Qualified applicants who pass the initial screening will be invited to register for an event:

  • Wednesday, March 11, 2026 – 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Wednesday, March 25, 2026 – 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM
  • Wednesday, April 8, 2026 – 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM

During the interview, you may need to provide a valid photo , social security card, and a completed Live Scan form.
