Support cross functional R&D in the field of incisionless surgery.

About Petal Surgical, Inc.

For centuries now, surgery has been about invasive and painful manipulation of tissue with one or more tools. Even the most recent advances in the field have not been able to break this fundamental constraint. We are changing that. At Petal, we are on a mission to make incisionless surgery the standard of interventional care, for everyone, everywhere.

We are constantly looking for creative "builder" interns who look for challenging problems to solve, go at them with absolute commitment and courage, and keep at it until they solve it, or know why it cannot be solved the way described. If you care about our mission and identify with this description, apply here - we would love to talk to you.

Responsibilities
  • Support the development of prototypes in one or more of the following domains: EE/ME/Clinical/SW/AI/ML/Imaging.
  • Collaborate with a diverse cross functional team pushing the envelope of what's possible in the field of surgery.
  • Clearly communicate concepts and ideas at a technical level as you will be tightly integrated within some of the smartest engineers and scientists.
Job Qualifications.
  • Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, ME, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering (Bio Medical Engineering), or a related discipline.
  • Familiarity with basic concepts of engineering, undertanding a problem analytically before attempting to solve it.
  • Hands-on experience with prototyping, soldering, and basic lab instrumentation (oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, function generators, etc.).
  • Strong teamwork and communication abilities, with an eagerness to contribute across disciplines.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision within an environment rich with unsolved science and technology challenges, hazy requirements, and a dynamic team committed to changing the fundamentals of surgery.
  • You must have examples of something you personally have made.
  • A general mantra of IF – IDK – I can figure it out.
Preferred qualifications (at least one):
  • Experience using Altium Designer (or similar PCB CAD tools).
  • Exposure to ultrasound electronics, power electronics, or motor control systems.
  • Experience with software and embedded firmware development (C/C++ or Micro Python).
  • Experience with tissue handling and clinical labs.
  • Interest in medical device design and the associated safety and regulatory considerations.
