We are building toward autonomous operations—the automation and orchestration of network management tasks without human intervention. To achieve this, we’ll need a robust unified network model that accurately represents the network via real-time telemetry for observability, which can also be used for intent-based configurations.
The unified modeling team in Network Platform Engineering is building this model which feeds Equinix Brain, a company-wide initiative to improve margins and customer experience. We are looking for an experienced Senior Staff Engineer to help us build and operate a highly scalable, available, and information-rich unified network model.
- Actively participate in the design, development, testing, and operation of highly reliable services and software to model network entities and relationships that compose Equinix’s global network
- Provide technical guidance and collaborate with stakeholders to identify network data and use cases that enrich the unified network model to solve critical business problems, increasing network reliability, visibility, awareness, and planning capability
- Develop solutions that leverage data from the unified network model to provide insights that enhance product capabilities for customers, aid operations teams to troubleshoot customer escalations and plan maintenance, and inform capacity planning
- Facilitate cross-stakeholder discussions to ensure alignment on software requirements and design trade-offs, considering performance, scalability, and reliability
- Work proactively with cross-functional teams to integrate the unified network model into Equinix Brain and other Network-as-a-Service initiatives
- Lead by example through direct contribution and establish development and operational best practices and standard methodologies
- Participate in an on-call rotation
- 7+ years of experience developing distributed, scalable, highly available software services using Golang
- Experience with SaaS, PaaS, IaaS, or cloud-based companies with design of microservices and systems at scale with production readiness
- Experience building software-as-a-service and running services with 24x7 on-call rotations
- Proficient in data management systems and technologies: GCP Spanner, Mongo
DB, Redis, Neo4J - Experience with containerization and orchestration:
Docker, Kubernetes, or other open-source options - Experience with network management protocols: gRPC, Netconf
- Strong understanding of networking concepts and protocols (ISIS, BGP, BMP, LLDP) and their applications
- Experience building and operating highly reliable distributed systems
- Proficient in CI/CD:
Git Hub Actions, ArgoCD - Experience with public cloud services (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Hands-on experience with observability stacks (metrics, logs, traces) such as Grafana, Prometheus, Thanos
- Experience with agile software development practices including JIRA, peer reviews, Git, CI/CD
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills to troubleshoot distributed systems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to convey findings and recommendations
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field
- Excellent coding skills in Golang
- Experience building a network model or digital twin
- Experience using AI to make real-time decisions on the network
The following pay ranges are targets for new hire pay for full-time positions and vary by role, level, and location.
