The ideal candidate will share Fresno City College's commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population. For the  academic year, we enrolled over 45,000 students in which 68% identify as Latinx, 11% as Asian/Pacific Islander, 4% as Black/African American, 14% as White, 1% as American Indian/Alaska Native, and 2% as multiracial. The successful candidate will join a department dedicated to the use of a curriculum responsive to the students it serves.

Responsibilities
  • Teach classes in Municipal Surveying, Route and Construction Surveying, Adjustment Computation, and Introduction to Engineering.
  • Work closely with K-12 and 4-year transfer institutions to enhance and promote STEM fields of study and careers.
  • Develop technology used for classroom presentations.
  • Advise students.
  • Communicate effectively with students and staff.
  • Participate in professional meetings and workshops.
  • Cooperate with colleagues in the same disciplines to schedule classes.
  • Participate in student recruiting activities.
  • Assist in advancing the institutional mission and goals.
  • Serve on and attend department, college, and district committees as needed.
  • Participate in program review, student learning outcome development, and assessment to improve student learning.
  • Teach assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evenings, weekends, online, or off-campus, and large group instruction; may include dual enrollment instruction at local high schools.
  • Fulfill all duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

  • Master's in any field of engineering.
  • Or Bachelor's in an allowed field plus a Master's in mathematics, physics, computer science, chemistry, or geology.
  • Or a valid California Community College Credential.
  • Or the equivalent education and/or experience (equivalency required).

Note: A bachelor's in any field of engineering with a professional engineer's license is an alternative qualification for this discipline. If the degrees posted do not match exactly as stated above, you must petition for equivalency.

Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience incorporating diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility.
  • Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students.
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices.
  • Related work and professional experience.
  • License as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS).
  • Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computers and other technologies used in instruction.
